2021-02-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who are the best prospects that will get a look in 2021?
(Tyler from Vancouver)
Many will get a look, some earlier than others. Obviously, players who debuted last year will be back, including Nick Madrigal, Dylan Carlson, Sixto Sanchez, Randy Arozarena, Ian Anderson, Ryan Mountcastle, Ke'Bryan Hayes, Daulton Varsho, etc. Another top-prospect early 2021 debut likely is Andrew Vaughn. Otherwise, our ETAs should help guide the search for potential 2021 impact players, though some likely will not debut until well after the All-Star break (Wander Franco, Jarred Kelenic, Julio Rodriguez, etc.). (Jesse Roche)
2020-05-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)With the absence of Trey Mancini would you expect the O’s to plug Ryan Mountcastle in at 1b? If so, what sort of production do you think he is capable of? Thanks for your insight.
(CubbieBear from Chi-Town)
I do believe you're forgetting about Chris Davis who is signed for another three seasons. But to answer your question, I'd have to think Mountcastle would get some run eventually this summer. I think his aversion to drawing walks will really hurt him initially, but he could eventually settle in that .265-.270ish range with 25 homers at peak. (Mark Barry)
2020-02-28 13:00:00 (link to chat)Give me the names of top prospects who are going to come up this year?
(Charlie from Atlanta)
The list is extensive. Here are top-50 prospects who likely will be in the majors at some point in 2020: Jo Adell, Gavin Lux, Luis Robert, MacKenzie Gore, Carter Kieboom, Dylan Carlson, Nick Madrigal, Jesus Luzardo, Dustin May, Brendan Rodgers, Nate Pearson, Casey Mize, Forrest Whitley, Alec Bohm, Cristian Pache, Ryan Mountcastle, Spencer Howard, and Matt Manning. There are obviously others, and even more who will surprise, but I'd wager these prospects will arrive at some point. (Jesse Roche)
2020-01-31 13:00:00 (link to chat)Which dynasty 101 guys make the biggest moves if you consider OBP vs. Avg?
(MK from Houston)
As an initial matter, I do not trust walk rates in short-season leagues or even the low minors. Player discipline can change dramatically between the minors and the majors as pitchers simply have better command/control and throw more strikes to challenge hitters. That said, I think the extreme cases do warrant attention (15%-plus walk rates and sub-5% walk rates)

Guys who move up include Andrew Vaughn, Adley Rutschman, and Nolan Jones.

Guys who drop some include Luis Robert and Ryan Mountcastle.

Of these players, Jones moves the most (easily into the Top 50, probably in the 30s). (Jesse Roche)
2019-04-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)When does Ryan Mountcastle see the majors and at what position?
(The Mountain from King's Landing)
I think they're going to make him force the issue and I wouldn't be surprised if it was in the second half of the years. He'll be playing 5th in the lineup, eventually. (Craig Goldstein)
2018-11-29 23:00:00 (link to chat)Could you give us your thoughts on Brandon Marsh, Taylor Trammel and Ryan Mountcastle?
(Chansen8895 from Santa Clara )
Love Marsh, wrote about a bunch of adjustments he made in his time at High A here: https://www.baseballprospectus.com/prospects/article/42239/notes-from-the-field-august-23/

Trammel's an awesome physical specimen, everything you want is there, now he's just gotta put it together. Mountcastle I have nothing clear-headed or rational to say about, mostly because he's an Orioles prospect and as an aficionado of #sensualbaseball I am overwhelmed by his name. (Wilson Karaman)
2018-09-12 13:00:00 (link to chat)Ottoneu-style dynasty league trade advice needed please!! I've been offered Ryan Mountcastle and Ramon Laureano in exchange for 1B mashers Ryan O'Hearn and Luke Voit. Should I do it?
(Tammy Tabernacle from Timbuktu)
I think I'd do that. I prefer the Mountcastle and Laureano upside a good bit more. (Mark Barry)
2018-01-11 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who do you prefer in a dynasty league that has OBP instead of AVG and an additional OPS category: Ryan Mountcastle or Isan Diaz? Dan vogelbach over either?
(moehk21 from West Hollywood)
I don't see a path to long term playing time for Vogelbach (sorry Wilson). Diaz is more likely to stay on the dirt so I would lean him, but Mountcastle has more upside in the bat. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-07-06 12:00:00 (link to chat)Do guys like Ryan Mountcastle and Bo Bichette figure to move to 2B before having to venture to the OF? Not being able to handle SS is one thing, but surely they can handle the keystone... am I wrong?
(Matt from KY)
You aren't, but some of this comes down to organization need, some of it to how their bodies develop and where the toolset fits best. There is of course a big gap in the offensive bar between second base and left field, so you ideally want to put the "not sticking as shortstop guys" as far left on the defensive spectrum as you can. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-07-19 17:00:00 (link to chat)How does Ryan Mountcastle's hitting project to the majors?
(Tom from WV)
Won't walk a lot, but he'll hit, and that swing is smooth as silk. He's got some power there too, and adding that to his contact skills would make him very intriguing. If he can get through the high minors without his discipline eroding, I think he'd be a solid regular. (Brett Cowett)
2017-06-13 12:00:00 (link to chat)Please rank the following based on fantasy profile long-term: Jake Bauers, Nick Williams, Scott Kingery, Shed Long, Austin Hays, Ryan Mountcastle. Thanks!
(Fred from Scottsdale)
Williams, Mountcastle, Kingery, Hays, Long, Bauers.

It's tough because you've got some speed-only types in there and at that point it really just depends what you're looking for on your team. I have never been on Bauers, so there might be some bias there. (Craig Goldstein)
