2019  Due to publishing agreements, the 2019 player comments and team essays are only available in the Baseball Prospectus 2019 book (available in hardcopy, and soon e-book and Kindle).
2018 Drew Jackson switched organizations, abandoned the Stanford Swing and put together a nice little season up through Double-A to reestablish himself as an interesting six-spot prospect after a down year in 2016.
2017 Drew Jackson’s offensive numbers plummeted after a two-level jump in 2016, but defense is his calling card here and the attributes that made him attractive last winter—plus speed, plus-plus arm and good instincts in the field—were on display in the California League.
2016 The MVP of the Northwest League, Jackson is a better prospect in the field than at the plate. That may sound odd for a player who hit .358 with solid walk and strikeout numbers, but his batting line isn't particularly impressive for a 22-year old in short season ball and it's nothing that Mike Zunino, Chris Taylor and Jamodrick McGruder haven't topped in Everett recently. Jackson simply doesn't have the power or barreling ability of an impact offensive player. Meanwhile, defensively, his tools are strong enough to still make him one of Seattle's best prospects. A plus runner, Jackson has a quick first step at shortstop and a plus-plus arm. He's a natural coming in on the ball and he has above-average range to both sides. He did make 11 errors last summer, a high number that may be partially attributable to playing his home games on a choppy infield baked by an unusually hot summer. Regardless of the cause, Jackson's mistakes should dwindle with repetition. He has enough stick to reach the majors in some capacity, and could develop into an average regular if he hits a little bit.
