2019-04-12 16:00:00 (link to chat)Did you get a chance to watch Pedro Avila's start for the Pads? He kinda came out of nowhere, eh? What can you tell us about him?
(Cole Whittier from Pasadena, CA)
I've only seen a few clips, but it was impressive stuff! They're clearly not afraid to bring these guys, like Paddack and Margevicius, quickly to the majors. For Avila, the curve and changeup are plus and there are more questions about his fastball command, plus his size, which means he may be a reliever long-term. There's a chance he can be a pretty solid starter if that command improves, though. I'd expect him to go back down initially, but I'm sure we'll see him again this year. (Darius Austin)
2018-06-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)The top 10 current prospects Mike Rizzo has traded away are the ____th best top 10 in baseball. A list for you to choose from: Jesus Luzardo, Sheldon Neuse, Dane Dunning, Taylor Hearn, Blake Perkins, Kelvin Gutierrez, Yohanse Morel, Tyler Watson, McKenzie Mills, Pedro Avila, Max Schrock, and Travis Ott.
(Andrew from Boston)
It's a decent top three in Jesus Lizard, Dunning, Hearn, but it drops off pretty quickly. Bottom five, better than the Mariners and the Giants off the top of my head. Rizzo gets a bit underrated as a GM still I think. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2016-09-29 13:00:00 (link to chat)Have you seen or heard much about Pedro Avila, 19 yr old dominican pitcher for Nats who made it to low A?
(Wally from DC)
Haven't seen, but quality reports. 60 fastball, 50-plus curve, developing change. Command needs a lot of work, however, and big concerns about size. (Christopher Crawford)
2015-08-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)Wilson, thanks for the chat. One name that I have heard nothing about is, Pedro Avila. After amassing 87k in 59.2IP is this someone to put on the radar? I'm judging off of the stat line; so I have no idea what kind of stuff he has.
(Jpilgrim from Jenks)
I don't either, unfortunately. He did that in the DSL, so we won't really get a read on what that means (or what the stuff looks like) until he comes stateside, presumably next year. But yeah, that's a pretty impressive statistical splash onto the scene and I'd file the name away, sure. (Wilson Karaman)
