BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2017 For a while Zagunis was among a handful of guys—along with Willson Contreras and Victor Caratini—whom the Cubs thought might one day be catching full time if everything broke the right way. Contreras made it to the majors as a catcher and he’s staying there, but Zagunis hasn’t caught since 2014 and is now a full-time outfielder. His bat has been solid to above average at every level, featuring good strike zone control tons of walks, but at age 24 he’s no longer young for his level.
2016 Mark Zagunis is an underpowered ex-catcher with sterling OBPs in the low minors. Every once in a while a guy like that manages to maintain his walk rate when he moves up to leagues where pitchers actually know how to pitch.
2015 Mark Zagunis' bat has always impressed and that didn't change in his pro debut; if his skills behind the plate continue to develop, he's another strong catching prospect in a system that was sorely lacking in the department just a year ago.

2015-07-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)How far (if at all) has Mark Zagunis' stock risen in your eyes? Is he a top 5 in the Cubs system? Is he a Top 100?
(elthompso from Cubs Fandom)
His stock has definitely risen, but not sure he's either of those things just yet. He's an underrated athlete with a solid-average hit tool, and as you can guess from the on-base percentage, his approach is really impressive. If he can handle Double-A like he has Myrtle Beach, then I think you have to consider him for the aforementioned spots. (Christopher Crawford)
2015-02-04 19:00:00 (link to chat)Any thoughts on Mark Zagunis or Dylan Cease
(Mikeked from Chicago )
Actually didn't get to see Zagunis last year, although the reports were interesting. Cease is difficult to rank until he's healthy. I should (hopefully) see plenty of both guys in Arizona, though. (Jordan Gorosh)
