BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2018 There's a bunch of pop in his bat, but Johan swings and Johan Mieses so often that Double-A pitchers were able to exploit him mercilessly on both sides of a midseason demotion to High-A.
2017 After spending the second half of the 2015 season in High-A, Mieses returned to Rancho Cucamonga looking like a different player. Looking is the operative word here, because while he did hit for more power, Mieses was—for all intents and purposes—the same style of player. He doesn't get cheated at the plate, and that type of approach will always come with its share of strikeouts. Still, his improved physique helped him generate more power and take advantage of his above-average straight-line speed. Double-A will be a big test as advanced arms will be more willing to exploit his free-swinging ways. The realistic outlook casts him as a platoon outfielder who can fill in at any outfield position, but a jump to everyday player status is within reach if he can refine his approach and curtail the swings-and-Mieses.
2016 Johan Mieses was pretty impressive as a 19-year-old at Great Lakes and mostly held his own as a 20-year-old in Rancho Cucamonga, which is more of a compliment and less of a Taco Bell order than it sounds like, respectively.

2016-08-15 22:00:00 (link to chat)So Johan Mieses has had himself quite a week. Has your opinion on him changed since your report in May?
(Emmett from Massachusetts)
I *just* wrote up an update on Mieses for our "Notes From the Field" that'll run tomorrow, so tune in manana, there's before and after video involved. Short answer is that they've overhauled his swing mechanics and he's made the kind of adjustments that he needed to make to get him closer to the 4 I hung on his hit tool. I still see him as having the kind of pop and defense to be a valuable Chris Young type down the line, and the recent hot streak hasn't altered that assessment.

Here's that earlier-season report: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/prospects/eyewitness_bat.php?reportid=313 (Wilson Karaman)
2015-09-30 19:00:00 (link to chat)I've been hanging on to my last $1 forever in my dynasty league. Here are a few guys who have risen up my list. Looking for most upside here. Who should I spend my $1 on? Domingo Acevedo,Jordan Patterson,Kevin Padlo,Wilson Contreras,Harold Ramirez,Johan Mieses,Chad Pinder,Isan Diaz,Willy Garcia,Yairo Munoz
(TheDave from AR)
I'd throw that dollar on Isan Diaz, Wilson Contreras and Yairo Munoz in that order. (Mauricio Rubio)
2015-06-15 19:00:00 (link to chat)Dodgers Johan Mieses is 19 and just got promoted to HiA his first year stateside. Know anything else about him?
(kcshankd from cascades)
Definitely a name to keep an eye on. Flashes all five tools, has the athleticism to stick in center. (Brendan Gawlowski)
