2020-01-31 13:00:00 (link to chat)I read that the Mariners' manager basically announced Shed Long as the starting second basemen. He was a slightly above average hitter in his first go in majors last year, which is impressive. What do you think of him for 2020 and long term in dynasty? Thanks.
(bozodidthedub from Providence)
The rebuilding Mariners almost certainly are moving away from Dee Gordon, but he is not out-the-door yet and he is on the books for $14 mil the next two years. I do expect Long to see plenty of playing time in 2020, and, like Dobnak, I also drafted Long in P365XDL at 456 overall. I think he can be average-ish across-the-board offensively, with a touch less hit/power and a touch more speed. Something like .260/15/10 is very possible as soon as 2020. Long-term, the hope is average everything and .270/20/10 type seasons, maybe even a few more steals. Long is often overlooked in dynasty leagues at the moment, and you can acquire him for peanuts. (Jesse Roche)
2019-11-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)Have we seen enough development from Shed Long to project him as an everyday 2B?
(Matt from WA)
I'd give him a clean shot in 2020 yeah. I've always liked the profile, but I don't know if there is quite enough there for him to be the everyday guy on the next good Mariners team, but uh...could be waiting a few years for that still. (Seattle Mariners Top 10 Chat)
2019-09-27 12:00:00 (link to chat)What kind of BA, HR, K/BB rates can we expect from Shed Long & Keibert Ruiz if/when both get regular major league ABs?
(Slappy from NC)
Shed feels like a broad base guy, average hit, average power maybe .260, 15-20 bombs, decent on-base clip. I actually think the shape of his part-time production this year is fairly close to what he can do. Ruiz, man, catchers are weird. I will cite the Bill James thing about once a player shows a skill it means he has the skill, and Ruiz has shown plus hit and plus power potential at various times, but I'm much less bullish on him putting it all together at once. But, catchers are weird. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2019-09-25 13:00:00 (link to chat)Did Shed Long do enough for the M's to give him the 2B job next year? If so, what kind of numbers do you expect him to put up? thanks
(slappy123 from NC)
I think there's a decent shot, yeah, mostly because the other options aren't going to be very appealing and they don't have much to lose by running him out there. I would think he'll hit a bit less than the 850 OPS he's sporting now. Something in the 780-810 range, maybe? Ballparking it. (Craig Goldstein)
2019-09-23 20:00:00 (link to chat)Shed Long (hot!) or Isan Diaz (not!) for future? And how much do these ~150 ABs change your view on them?
(Shooty Babbitt from Oaktown, CA)
I like both of them a lot. The ~150 ABs has made me like Long more and for Diaz, I just think he needs to see a full season's worth of pitching to adjust. It's a powerful, smooth and aggressive swing - and he's going to be very good. This isn't a Lewis Brinson situation at all. And how could you not love Shed Long? I think that swing - though a little quirky - has 15 HR potential. While I expect him to be a .270s hitter, he's got speed, versatility, and discipline. Sounds like a leadoff hitter on the Mariners to me. (Tyler Oringer)
2019-09-23 20:00:00 (link to chat)Could you rank these 2B: Biggio, Hoerner, Chavis, Isan Diaz, Shed Long, Solak, Dubon, Edman. Any you especially like?
(The Colonel from Pasadena, CA)
Like Biggio, Hoerner, Chavis, Edman, Long and Diaz. Big fan of Biggio and Hoerner. I really like Long's overall profile, but admit that he could work out that swing a tad more. Love Chavis' hit and game power more than most, but not the glove or anything else for that matter. (Tyler Oringer)
2019-06-19 13:00:00 (link to chat)What's an inappropriate length of time to hold on when hugging an acquaintance? Also, who are you higher on from a fantasy perspective: Shed Long or Nicky Lopez?
(Adam from Durham)
if you have to ask, it's too long. Not particularly high on either from a fantasy angle. (Craig Goldstein)
2018-06-29 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Shed Long someone who could sneak into the BP 101 next year? Above average regular possibility?
(Bob from Ohio)
Yeah, he's been on the long list before. The general consensus is he's been more of a fun prospect than a *101* name, but it can become both once you start showing it at Double-A (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-06-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)How would you rank the following for dynasty fantasy purposes: Cavan Biggio, Esteury Ruiz, Oneil Cruz, Shed Long, Ke'Bryan Hayes. Thanks in advance.
(Enrique from The Ranch)
What a weird hodgepodge. Probably Shed/Hayes/Biggio/Cruz/Ruiz (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-04-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)Currently rebuilding a dynasty team: Who has bigger upside, more likely big league impact at the keystone - Shed Long or Esteury Ruiz?
(GBdontgivea&^% from Wisconsin)
Ruiz is my guy. Age 19, good speed and athelicism, should be at least average across the board in roto categories with good bat speed. Higher ceiling but longer wait. Long is 22, struggled in his short Double-A stint, but was solid in High-A. A converted catcher, so maybe he gets on track quickly, and at least his BB% and contact rate improved at Double-A. (Kevin Jebens)
2018-02-05 12:00:00 (link to chat)Where might Shed Long rank? Will he ever crack this list?
(Chris from Baltimore)
He just missed the just missed group. Probably on the cusp of a Top 150? He's a really fun prospect, but might be more fun than good, and there's some swing and miss there. If he conquers Double-A this year I expect he'd make it in 2019. (Top 101 with Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-01-06 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Shedric Long a top 100 guy right now? Can he be a helium guy and ultimately maybe be a top 50 guy a year or so from now?
(Jeff from Miami)
A little too rich for my blood. I think the breakout is real, but need to see the bat play in the upper minors before I go in that hard on him, due to the profile issues. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
