BP Chats

DateQuestionAnswer
2017-08-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)Which of the newly-heralded Cubs SP prospects gets to Wrigley first? Which, if any ,project as middle of the rotation or better?
(Matt from Chicago)
Adbert Alzolay is the answer to the second, in my opinion. To the first, I guess it's either Alzolay or Trevor Clifton. (Dillon Maples is the next prospect who'll grace a Wrigley Field mound, but obviously, that's purely as a reliever.) (Matthew Trueblood)
2017-08-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)How soon can one of the Cubs P prospects help our their rotation? Any of those guys have mid rotation or better upside?
(Matt from Chicago)
And one more the Jarrett Seidler BP Chat, hosted by Rob Mains:

"Adbert Alzolay and Trevor Clifton are mid-rotation upside guys that could help in a year or two."

Three takeaways: (1) Jarrett is really good at this stuff. (2) All of you asking me prospects questions: Start a petition to have Jarrett do a chat. (3) I have no idea whether Alzolay and Clifton are real people. But I have faith in Jarrett! (Rob Mains)
2017-02-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Trevor Clifton being underrated? Over his last 7 starts in 2016: 43.2 IP, 0.82 ERA, 45K, 6 BB...feels like nobody noticed and he's still only being projected as a back-end guy. Empty stats? Or possible that the reports on him are now outdated?
(Joe's from Garage)
I mean, by BP he's the no. 4 prospect in a talented farm system, so I'm not sure how much higher a rating he needs. He's still got work to do, but the read I'm getting is that back-end is now the floor, rather than the average, estimate. (Patrick Dubuque)
2016-12-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)Are any of Trevor Clifton, Oscar De La Cruz, or Jeimer Candelario top 100 prospects?
(Jeff from Brooklyn)
Yes, no, maybe (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2016-09-08 19:00:00 (link to chat)Thanks for the chat George. Can you rank the following young SPs based on talent (exlcuding proximity to majors)? Trevor Clifton, Jack Flaherty, Jaime Schultz, Touki Toussaint. Can I also get your thoughts on the good Basabe brother, and how he compares to other good young OFs (e.g. Acuna, Whitley, Sierra, Mieses, Robles)? GO SOX!
(Anthonyb from Boston)
You got it Anthony! This is a group of starters that I think will all end up in the bullpen, especially Schultz and Toussaint. If I had to pick one, I guess it would be Clifton. I haven't seen Basabe in-person yet, I'm planning on it once he reaches Double-A Portland (in my neck of the woods). The numbers are impressive and he seems like an incredible athlete that is starting to translate those skills into tangible on-field production. I put Robles and Acuna in a higher class than almost any prospect left in the minors. Those two are both top-10-to-15 fantasy prospects for me right now. (George Bissell)
2016-07-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)How would you characterize the state of Cubs SP pipeline? Seems like most of it is at lower levels? Cease? DeLa Cruz?
(Matt from Chicago)
They'll be able to both bridge that gap by way of having the finance to get someone if a hole arises, and/or do some Cubs magic and find that guy internally already and we just aren't talking about him.

I would throw Trevor Clifton somewhere into this mix--not as dominant top pitching prospect, but a name to be aware of. Certainly the story is they focused on hitters the last few drafts, and that's served them well. (Adam McInturff)
