2020-01-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)Does Oscar Mercado have additional upside or is 2019 (average offense with no carrying tool) the best we're likely to see? Same basic question for Harold Ramirez (whose offense was below average)?
(KerryFam4 from Lecanto, FL)
I wouldn't expect much more upside from Mercado (and frankly I didn't expect the power he showcased in 2019, although that might be the rocket ball in action). Fringy offense with nice defense seems right for Mercado to me. I'm a _little_ bit more optimistic on Ramirez just because I think there's a chance he could have a fluky batting average season that drives the profile even more but...I'd guess below-average offensively is right for Ramirez too, broadly speaking. (Craig Goldstein)
2019-03-11 16:00:00 (link to chat)How would you rank Yusniel Diaz, Oscar Mercado, Yordan Alvarez and Daz Cameron by projected plate appearances this year, and what is rhe range / error bars?
(PA prognosticator from PA)
Mercado, Alvarez, Cameron, Diaz, although Mercado's the only one who seems to have an obvious route to any significant PT, as the Astros have the depth to keep Alvarez in the minors and the Orioles and Tigers have no incentive to bring anyone up early. (Darius Austin)
2018-07-10 20:00:00 (link to chat)Oscar Mercado, Bader, Randy A, J A Garcia..... these guys seemed destined for part time in Stl. Should we be investing in any? Will their ultimate positions depend on if they stay w Cards? Any of them good enough for Cards to make room or clear space to play in 2019?
(Ghost of McGuire from Midwest)
Bader has to have some sort of regular role in 2019, I'd imagine. But man, that OF is clogged up pretty bad. I like Mercado a lot and I think Arozarena is classic Cardinals Devil Magic material but it's a legit question if they're going to debut in a STL uni. Semi-related, keep an eye on Elehuris Montero. He was a preseason breakout pick of mine when I did my top 50 for prospects1500. (Eddy Almaguer)
2016-06-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)When I see Delvin Perez I can't help but think of Oscar Mercado, another glove first SS of a few years back. Why does the industry, or yourself, believe he can figure out how to hit enough? Has it to do with being 3 inches taller than Mercado or just a better swing? *Disclaimer I am not a scout and you have 0 reason to accept this a valid comp
(Lotion from In a basket)
That's an interesting comp, even if I don't agree with it. The thing I see in Perez -- and some see it and some don't -- is a chance for big raw power. There's so much bat speed, and he's going to fill out. There's concerns about the hit tool, as there should be, but man, the upside, the upside is palpable. (Christopher Crawford)
2016-04-25 23:00:00 (link to chat)Have you gotten a chance to take a look at Oscar Mercado? Cardinals SS in High-A looking good with the glove and on the basepaths. Any fantasy value here?
(Will from Gainesville)
We'll have some notes on him shortly, one of our FSL guys caught him last weekend and another is sitting on Palm Beach this weekend. The speed is legit, though he's raw on the bases. Big question will be whether he gets on base enough to use it. Shows some plate discipline, line drive hitter. Alcides Escobar-type potential if it works out? To be continued though, certainly an interesting profile. (Wilson Karaman)
2014-04-01 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hi Jason. Do you see Oscar Mercado as a future SS for the Cardinals?
(dixie_flyer from st. louis)
I don't. I don't think he will hit enough to be a major league regular. (Jason Parks)
