2019-08-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)Matthew Boyd seems to have fallen in love with allowing the long ball over the last 75 or so IP. Do you think he can correct this issue and be productive for the remainder of 2019? As hes been a dumpster fire outside of K for the last two months.
(dzemens from Toledo)
I can guarantee you he doesn't love it. I do think he can correct the issue, but I don't know that we'll see the first-half version either. (Craig Goldstein)
2019-04-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)How real is Matt Boyd's start? That slider looks good, and his tunneling looks legit. You buying that there's been a real improvement?
(jgaztambide from Matthew Boyd's heart)
These are always moderately tricky. The slider does look good, and he's throwing it a ton. "Throw your best pitch more often" has been a driving force behind a bunch of breakouts, so I do buy it on that level. My question is whether the league adjusts and starts to sit on the slider, with more success eventually, and how Boyd reacts to that. (Craig Goldstein)
2019-02-25 16:00:00 (link to chat)Which young SP's take big steps forward this year?
(Buddy from Peoria, IL)
Feels like there are a bunch...I think the secret's out on Taillon after the slider-fueled dominance in the 2H last year. Lotta hype on Bieber and Pivetta as well. I'm into a bunch of later-round arms: Josh James, Joey Lucchesi, Tyler Glasnow, Tyler Skaggs, Matt Boyd, and, as always, Jon Gray. (Jon Hegglund)
2016-08-24 20:00:00 (link to chat)Who will be more reliable the rest of the season, Matt Boyd, Ivan Nova, or Bud Norris?
(Alex from Austin)
Reliability? I'd go with Nova, then Boyd, then Norris. I'd probably avoid Norris entirely. (Scooter Hotz)
2015-11-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)I gather from the tigers Top 10 - you would not be optimistic about Matt Boyd's ability to stick in an MLB rotation? (If not, bullpen?)
(Will from MI)
Boyd was not eligible for the top 10, he would have gone somewhere in the middle if so. I think he can be a No 4 or 5 starter, or a very competent reliever. (Christopher Crawford)
2015-08-13 20:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Greg, Who do you see as potential breakout starting pitchers in the AL for next season?
(Chris from Dallas)
Still riding with Gausman, the Rays will probably slow-play Blake Snell because that's what they do but I saw him the other day and he was sensational. He's pretty close, with three plus pitches. For deeper leagues, I'm interested to see what Matt Boyd does in Detroit. (Greg Wellemeyer)
2015-03-12 15:00:00 (link to chat)Best comment in the annual?
(Mo Betta from Hoodhaven)
I actually haven't read much of the book yet because of school. The Moises Sierra one is an all-timer. Adam Sobsey (who I shared the Jays chapter with, quite intimidating writing next to him) wrote Matt Boyd with the perfect changeup metaphor. Of the ones I wrote (not that you asked): Jonathan Gray, LaTroy Hawkins. (Andrew Koo)
