2013-03-28 13:00:00 (link to chat)There are certainly very few Mike Trouts. Do you think there are any Northeast high school prospects that are perhaps being undervalued?
(Shepherd from Baltimore, MD)
Not northeast (MidAtlantic), but Andy McGuire (ss, James Madison HS (Va.)) was not at his best through the summer circuit and could see his stock rise this spring. Another talent from the Commonwealth, Connor Jones (lhp, Great Bridge HS (Va.)), from what I saw, didn't get enough love through the fall, but is now winning folks over in droves. (Nick Faleris)
2013-01-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)I like Kris Bryant's bat, it looks like he's close to ready now, how does Andy McGuire project ?
(Mike M from San Jose)
Bryant can get grooved in his swing, but when he runs into one he really drives it. The spring will be important for him, and as I noted in our first Scouting the Draft series here at BP, I think he's a good bet to come off the board earlier than his profile would generally suggest due to the limited number of high upside college bats available. McGuire is a bit of a question mark at this point -- as Nathan Rhode at Baseball America reported, he had hip surgery in September (which explains some range/speed issues this summer that seemed out of place with his athletic profile). He could be a first rounder if he looks right during high school ball. (Nick Faleris)
