2018-01-11 13:00:00 (link to chat)I have 9 prospects on my dynasty roster and need to get it down to 5. My back end guys are Jack Flaherty, Chance Sisco, Jorge Mateo, Jose DeLeon, Yohander Mendez, and Zack Collins. Which two do I keep? Which ones might have the best trade value in a deep dynasty league?
(edwar288 from Minneapolis)
Mateo is the obvious one from a fantasy standpoint. After that you have three arms without a clear out pitch, and two catchers that might not stick. I'd probably take Flaherty just based on floor, but I don't feel good about it. If you are short catching, hold on to Sisco. I don't feel good about that either. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-04-11 19:00:00 (link to chat)Seems the theme of every chat is about how good Ronald Acuna will be. Can we give it up for some closer to the bigs players that no one is talking about?
(Loonies from Tampa)
Oh. Look at that.

A few different ways to interpret your question. There are guys like Yohander Mendez who look awfully close to the bigs, and so despite their lack of flashiness still gets them in the Top 50. Amir Garrett is another who is breaking into the majors and looks like he may be a solid mid-rotation arm. Kind of hard to look like you're going to be a regular and not get some sort of attention.

Perhaps Kyle Higashioka is the answer here? Now I've talked about him. Hmm. (Nick Schaefer)
2017-02-16 20:00:00 (link to chat)How much wood would Yohander Mendez chuck if Yohander Mendez could chuck wood?
(John from Bayside)
A decent amount, but not as much as someone like, say, Keone Kela. (Kate Morrison)
2017-02-16 20:00:00 (link to chat)I assume you've gotten some good looks at Yohander Mendez...think he'll be a solid mid-rotation guy for years? More? Less? Thanks!
(Jojo from SD)
Years, sure, just not next year immediately. Mendez needs a bit more development, but when it clicks for him, he'll hopefully be able to live up to his build and stuff and be yet another solid mid arm for Texas. The problem, though, is that Texas has some mid-rotation guys, but no potential top-end guys coming up through the system, thanks to both system attrition and drafting difficulties. (Kate Morrison)
2016-12-08 23:00:00 (link to chat)Last prospect keeper slot should go to which young arm: Luis Ortiz, Yohander Mendez, Riley Pint, or Thomas Szapucki?
(seddrah from Seattle)
Gimme Yohander, best mix of proximity and potential.

Mmm, and I almost forgot to kick off a proper soundtrack. Basabe's flight got me feelin' militant. Let's let the Weavers take the mic, yeah? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sh86h92PrH0 (Wilson Karaman)
2016-09-26 20:00:00 (link to chat)Who's future do you like better - Yohander Mendez or Cody Reed (Reds)?
(Snake Plissken from New New York)
Yohander Mendez. The error bars are a lot bigger on Mendez than Cody Reed. Mendez is more likely to bust through injury or a dip in performance, but Mendez is also more likely to become a top-of-the-rotation starter. I just don't think Reed has that in him unless he undergoes a radical transformation in the majors like Cliff Lee. Reed is a lot more likely to still be in the majors a decade from now, though, since he's a big lefty who throws hard and has a better shot than Mendez at still being close a long time from now. (Scooter Hotz)
2016-08-30 13:00:00 (link to chat)Think Yohander Mendez could start next year in the rangers rotation? Is he close to ready?
(Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater from Hockessin)
Actually, I really do think he's ready for the rotation in 2017. He's proven he's got a variety of trusty stuff in the arsenal and the intelligence to work through a lineup multiple times. I think we'll see him finish 2016 in the pen and then get stretched out in 2017. It might take a month or two in Triple-A for him to get comfortable, but if he adjust quickly, the Rangers have a real weapon to call upon. (Will Haines)
2016-08-15 22:00:00 (link to chat)Will Yohander Mendez be starting in the majors by this time next season?
(WickedCurve26 from Austin)
Wouldn't be at all shocked. Has really come into his own this year, and has the stuff and intelligence to pitch in a rotation quickly and for a long time. (Wilson Karaman)
2016-07-05 19:00:00 (link to chat)Next BIG prospect nobody is talking about?
(Steve from Colorado)
The difficult thing about this is that I talk about a lot of prospects with a lot of people, so I don't know who is under the radar. Yohander Mendez? He's pretty cool. (Kate Morrison)
2016-05-16 23:00:00 (link to chat)Can we get your thoughts on some diverse group of prospects: Yohander Mendez, Ronald Guzman, Jacob Faria, Tyler O'Neill, & Max Fried? Can we see any of them this year in the show & should we be buying or concerned in there early season performance?
(Bob from Northern Hemisphere)
I've had High Desert come to town twice already and managed to miss both Mendez and Luis Ortiz both times. Very good reports on Mendez though, his performance has been legit. Guzman's doing things this year that I did not think he was going to get to a place to do. My report on him from last year is below. He spent most of his season lost last year, was tinkering with his setup every time I saw him & never showed any signs - in BP, in games - of an ability to turn on the ball with authority. O'Neill looks like Mr. Universe and has some requisite stiffness in his swing, but effort so far's confirming that it wasn't all Bakersfield's toy store dimensions last year. I don't have any updates on Fried from this spring, sorry. David Lee was lukewarm on Faria in a recent writeup.

2016-05-18 19:00:00 (link to chat)Hey George. Was hoping to get your thoughts on some Low Minor Pitchers off to strong starts: Yohander Mendez & Pedro Payano? Should there strong start adjust our perspectives on them or too early?
(Jerry from Earth)
I really like Mendez. He's striking out 12-per-nine at High-A right now. Always bet on a lefty. (George Bissell)
2015-10-13 19:00:00 (link to chat)Do you think Yohander Mendez ever adds enough wait to get his durability up and project even more as a starter? Organizational Top 10 guy?
(STEVE from Philly )
I don't know if Mendez is quite top 10, yet, though he's talented enough to be in the conversation. He is rather skinny, and since he's only 20, he could potentially add that weight, but he'll need to do it soon. If he isn't durable, he'll add to the stable of lightning relievers the Rangers seem to be building. (Kate Morrison)
2015-06-25 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hi Harry, Is there any report from Rangers prospect Yohander Mendez recently? Dude starts to stretch innings from bullpen and has ridiculous number so far.
(Alvin from Chicago)
Nothing recent that I have handy. I think the book on him is 'mlb potential'. He's young, he's tall, and his numbers may suggest he's due to move up a level before long. (Harry Pavlidis)
2013-09-11 13:00:00 (link to chat)What prospect are you most looking forward to seeing in Instructs?
(Chad from OKC)
Oh wow. Well...I would like to try and finally get a look at Luiz Gohara in game action. I was supposed to see him vs. Yohander Mendez in extended spring, but as luck would have it, Gohara got food poisoning or something and was a late scratch. I want to see more of the Giants top picks (Arroyo/Jones). The Rangers' July 2 haul. I thought the DBacks draft guys this year were all really intriguing so them as well. Can I just say "everything"? (Jason Cole)
2013-07-25 13:00:00 (link to chat)Think the Cubs' PTBNL could be Yohander Mendez, Matt West, or Will Lamb?
(Jake from Libertyville)
I don't think the Rangers would part with Mendez. The other arms could be in play, although I wouldn't give up on West after they spent the last year fixing his arm and rehabbing him. (Jason Parks)
2013-06-13 13:00:00 (link to chat)DO you know where Luiz Gohara is and when he'll debut ?
(Ernie from Seattle)
Gohara pitched at extended spring training in Arizona. I was going to watch him in a sexy matchup against the Rangers' Yohander Mendez while I was out there, but Gohara got scratched that day because he was sick. Tough luck for me. I didn't end up seeing him. Not sure where he'll debut. I could see anywhere from the AZL to Everett, with Pulaski being the most likely. But that's a shot-in-the-dark guess. (Jason Cole)
