2020-09-25 16:00:00 (link to chat)You've simply shown us the Children of Men "all in one shot" crying baby scene on loop this semester. Can you please lighten the mood & show a nice Ashton Kutcher romantic comedy instead? In any case, what can the crying baby scene teach us about the morality of fantasy baseball?
(Frustrated student from The Moon)
Registration will be open soon for my Spring course on Rom-Coms, Neoliberalism, and the Cultural Hegemony of Dumb-Guy Masculinity. We will spend all fifteen weeks close reading every single scene from "My Boss's Daughter." Get in quick, it's sure to fill up! As far as Children of Men, the crying baby is 2020, I am the Clive Owen character bleeding out on the rowboat, and the ship "Tomorrow" is coming through the fog not to save us all but only to remind you that Adalberto Mondesi is a bad hitter no matter how many stolen bases he gets. Oh, sorry, SPOILERS (Jon Hegglund)
2020-09-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)Why is Mondesi so high?
(Sean from Chicagoland)
Adalberto Mondesi comes in at 66, falling 30 spots between updates, which equates to 2 tiers. It is difficult to sugar coat his dreadful performance, but here goes. First, Mondesi has only played 35 games, which is far from a reasonable sample to pass too harsh a judgment. Second, he still possesses elite speed and average raw power. Now, the power has not really manifested this year, but he did undergo serious offseason shoulder surgery which almost certainly is effecting his ability to impact the ball and make contact. Of course, that ability to make contact (or lack thereof) is an ongoing problem, but I do expect it will improve enough for him to scrap together a serviceable batting average (~.240). Currently, Mondesi is sporting a .276 BABIP, which is ~50 points lower than normal. Once fully recovered and healthy, I expect he returns to a .240/15/50 type performer (or better). He is extremely polarizing (most players with his contact issues are), but his upside, when right, is nearly unmatched. (Jesse Roche)
2020-09-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)Curious to know what you thought of Jesse/Bret's rankings, and whether there are any players you're notably different on?
(Jefferson Airplane from Boston)
Those guys do such a great job, I think arguing with them about dynasty rankings would be a little like me trying to tell Clayton Kershaw how to throw a curveball or arguing with Craig on how to bake pies or do Twitter.

I will say that I'm a little more scared of Yordan Alvarez (health) and Victor Robles (productivity) than Jesse/Bret. I wonder if Giolito shouldn't be a little higher (currently behind Clevinger, Paddack, & Snell), and I can't seem to figure out what is going on with Adalberto Mondesi. He's either way low or way high and I can't seem to tell. Which probably just means that he's ranked correctly. (Mark Barry)
2018-12-06 20:00:00 (link to chat)On a scale of 1-10, how much do you believe in Adalberto Mondesi?
(Joe from TX)
6.9 (Jarrett Seidler)
2018-11-29 23:00:00 (link to chat)Just dealt Ozzie Albies for Adalberto Mondesi in a 14 tm h2h keeper. Thoughts?
(dtothew from Atlanta )
Mondesi's always been a tough guy to evaluate in terms of fantasy value because he was SO aggressively pushed throughout his minor-league career, and last year's explosion swung the pendulum that much further in the other direction. I think I like him more than Albies longterm, particularly if you've got another decent 2B option and needed 6-spot value? If what he showed last year holds, he's a superstar. If 60% of it holds, he's a very good fantasy asset for a very long time. (Wilson Karaman)
2018-09-18 19:00:00 (link to chat)How would you rank Adalberto Mondesi in a dynasty format?
(Roy from Bay)
(shakes 8-ball) ask again later.

Man, I'm dammed no matter what I say. The ceiling is Top 50, the floor is 200-250. You can split the difference and rank Mondesi at 150 but that just means you're not invested. I love the tools and think he could steal 50 but I don't have any faith in that .290 average and think pitchers will adjust in 2019. I'm going to say 125. (Mike Gianella)
2018-09-18 19:00:00 (link to chat)I was just offered Brendan Rodgers for Adalberto Mondesi in a dynasty league. I have to say no right?
(Troy from sd)
I'd pass. I like Rodgers but Mondesi has shown enough in speed alone that you can't do that. (Mike Gianella)
2018-09-18 19:00:00 (link to chat)Is Adalberto Mondesi a top 50 player in redraft leagues next season?
(Darren from nyc)
Could he earn it? Sure. Will I pay it? No. There's too much bust in the boom/bust here to pay that price. I'd rather be wrong at that price and let someone else take the risk. (Mike Gianella)
2018-08-29 19:00:00 (link to chat)Does Adalberto Mondesi have a 15-20hr/50 steal season next year?
(Kevin from MI)
Couple of Mondesi questions in the queue. That's probably the 95th percentile outcome. I feel better projecting 12 HR, 35 SB. (Eddy Almaguer)
2018-08-29 19:00:00 (link to chat)How would you value Adalberto Mondesi in a dynasty league?
(Todd from LA)
I'm hanging on. We're headed for the lowest steals total in a year in a loooong time. Billy Hamilton has made a fantasy living being an OBP drain but still performing what we need from him. No reason Mondesi can't do the same but with MI eligibility. OBP owners will have to swallow a tough pill, but it's worth it. (Eddy Almaguer)
2018-06-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)Do you have any faith Adalberto Mondesi will finally put it all together and be a productive big leaguer?
(Chris from MI)
HOW THE HELL IS HE STILL ONLY 22

Anyway, not really. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2014-09-10 12:00:00 (link to chat)Best SS prospect in 2016?
(Mitch from ATL)
Loaded question.

Assuming that Carlos Correa is still eligible, he is the obvious answer. My sleeper is Adalberto Mondesi. Witt's report is spot-on. I think Mondesi has a ton of growth left, and I have also seen the improvements that Witt talks about in his latest report:
http://www.baseballprospectus.com/prospects/eyewitness_bat.php?reportid=170 (Tucker Blair)
2014-08-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)Worried about Adalberto Mondesi?
(Chuck from K City)
Yes and no. I only got one look at him but I hated the approach and pitch recognition. On the other hand, I like the mechanics of the swing and raw ability. I absolutely loved the speed and the defense. He'll be a major leaguer just based on those skills, and he's a talented enough hitter to get it together. He's been pushed incredibly hard and has to hit at Wilmington, which doesn't help, but it's not enough of an excuse for how poorly he's performed. I think he'll always be a low-OBP guy who makes a lot of bad contact, but his defense and speed will be enough to make up for some offensive shortcomings. He's incredibly talented but I worry about the approach and plate discipline.

It should be noted that I am admittedly lower on him than most of our team and have only seen him in person one time, so I haven't finished formulating my opinion and will defer to the guys in that area who have seen a lot more of him and who I trust. I also tend to shy away from guys with terrible plate discipline no matter how skilled they are. (Jeff Moore)
2014-07-07 11:00:00 (link to chat)Still love Adalberto Mondesi?
(Tom from KC)
Yes. (Jason Parks on the Top 50)
2014-07-09 15:00:00 (link to chat)Is Adalberto Mondesi overrated? I understand he has consistently been young for his level, but at some point he has to put up numbers offensively, right?
(SK from Boston)
Not at all. CJ Wittman could tell you more than I could but Mondesi is pure lotion in the field (very smooth) and seems to have more pop in his bat every time I've gotten a look at him. All that matters is that he lights it up in the show right? Every time I've seen him go against top flight competition he impresses. He will shine in the majors. (Ryan Parker)
2014-06-24 13:00:00 (link to chat)What are your thoughts on Adalberto Mondesi's hitting?
(Jon from Kansas City)
Considering he's the age of plenty of GCL players, and is currently flashing a plus, plus glove in A+, I'm not too concerned. He has a decent approach, although it isn't showing up in the walk column quite yet. The bat may take a bit longer to manifest, as the glove is clearly the carrying tool. (Jordan Gorosh)
2014-06-24 13:00:00 (link to chat)Adalberto Mondesi - a top 5 ss ever?
(Ryan from Colorado)
He will be one of the top 5 Adalberto's of all time #adalberto (Jordan Gorosh)
2014-06-03 14:00:00 (link to chat)From a purely fantasy standpoint - Adalberto Mondesi or JP Crawford?
(Steve from New Mexico)
JP Crawford for me. (Ron Shah)
2014-06-03 14:00:00 (link to chat)Are you worried about Adalberto Mondesi's struggles?
(Rick from NJ)
No. He's 18 in High-A. If the tools start to regress, then yes. (Ron Shah)
2014-06-16 13:00:00 (link to chat)Jp Crawford or Adalberto Mondesi? fantasy wise
(Nick from Colorado)
The reports on Crawford have been fantastic and he just got promoted to Clearwater so I should get a look at him soon. I'll take him. Don't tell Parks though. He loves guys named Adalberto. (Jeff Moore)
2014-05-27 11:30:00 (link to chat)Adalberto Mondesi's potential?
(Rick from NJ)
All star SS. A small tick below lindor in the field, and even at the plate, but the glove is plus, plus, and the speed is legit. He's going to be a damn good MLB SS, and for a long time. (Jordan Gorosh)
2014-05-13 11:00:00 (link to chat)Still in love with Adalberto Mondesi?
(Steve from Nebraska)
Still. (Jason Parks)
2014-05-05 13:00:00 (link to chat)Please tell me your as high as me on Adalberto Mondesi? You like his Potential?
(Ryan from Kansas City)
Given that you're a Royals fan, I assure you that I'm not as high on Mondesi as you are, but anyone who hits .300 in Wilmington as an 18 year old has my attention. (Jeff Moore)
2014-04-29 13:00:00 (link to chat)Do you Adalberto Mondesi will be a star?
(Eric from Colorado)
I haven't seen him play. Parks seems to love him, and Parks doesn't give his heart to just anyone. (R.J. Anderson)
2014-04-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)What kind of upside do you see Adalberto Mondesi having?
(Ryan from chicago)
In terms of pure upside, I think we're looking at a potential All-Star caliber shortstop. In reality, he likely comes up a bit short of that projection and "ends up" a really good everyday player. (Mark Anderson)
2014-03-24 13:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on the potential of Adalberto Mondesi?
(Nick from chicago)
I defer to Parks & Co. there... I haven't seen him even on video, so it's all reading knowledge that I have - http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=22285 (Paul Sporer)
2014-03-21 14:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Adalberto Mondesi?
(Ryan from Kansas City)
Another player that makes everyone feel old; prefers to be called Raul (I think); may not be a star, but that's OK. (Ronit Shah)
2014-03-21 14:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Adalberto Mondesi? Similar to Lindor down the line or better?
(Nick from chicago)
I think Lindor could be a star. I don't think Mondesi will be even though he is years behind his age. (Ronit Shah)
2013-09-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)Try not to star-chasing but you have been in Seattle for more than I thought you would....Can I look for you door by door? You know, for the baseball talk, not for the "D"
(Jim from Bellevue)
Yes. Please knock on doors. I'll be behind one of them. I'll be the guy wearing a Raul Adalberto Mondesi mask and a half shirt. (and that's it) (Jason Parks)
2013-09-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)After Xander, correa, seager and Russell, who are the next best MI prospects to keep an eye on?
(Biscuits from Morgan hill, ca )
Raul Adalberto Mondesi could be a star; Jose Rondon will have helium this off-season. Just wait. (Jason Parks)
2013-07-29 11:00:00 (link to chat)Thanks for the chat! The transcripts are always fun to read. Pick two to stash on a dynasty minors roster: Tyler Glasnow, Yordano Ventura and Adalberto Mondesi.
(Alex from Tacoma)
Ventura and Mondesi. Not a knock on Glasnow, but I would want a pitcher who is closer to producing in the majors. (Zach Mortimer)
2013-06-25 13:00:00 (link to chat)what is Adalberto Mondesi's potential and did he crack your top 50?
(Scott from NY)
Fist-division potential; he made the list. (Jason Parks on the Midseason Top 50 Prospects)
2013-06-13 13:00:00 (link to chat)Are there any players who have basically come out of no where this year to the point where they are a top 50 type prospect? For example someone like Gregory Polanco last year.
(petelunchbox from Handsome City)
You could say perhaps Raul Adalberto Mondesi, coming off his short-season resume last season. Sonny Gray has done a very nice job of reclaiming his prospect status (if not even surpassing it out of college). (Jason Cole)
2013-05-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)What prospects in lower-level stand out to you in having a feel for the game?
(TPX2 from Taiwan)
Off the top of my head, Raul Adalberto Mondesi impressed big time with his overall feel in spring training. Rougned Odor in High-A with the Rangers is another. (Jason Cole)
2013-04-16 20:00:00 (link to chat)Bret, I play in a fairly deep competitive keeper league 16 team with a 20 man minor system. I am always looking for the edge in future top prospects as they carry quite the value in mid season trades etc. In 2011 I was able to grab a pre breakout Taveras and Bogaerts, since that year I am always looking for prospects who look to really make that jump from back end or outside the top 100 to future top 30 stud. I was wondering if you had some names to watch in A and Low A, that could make these leaps, particularly position players. Alen Hanson and Polanco are already picked up, Adalberto Mondesi is spoken for as well, trying to stay ahead of my competition.
(Brandon from Toronto)
If you want a few off the radar names, how about Zach Eflin and Dilson Herrera. And if you don't need to dig quite that deep, check out Dorssys Paulino, Blake Snell, Jeimer Candelario and Joe Ross. (Bret Sayre)
2013-04-04 11:00:00 (link to chat)You have Oscar Taveras and Adalberto Mondesi on a double date, who do you take and where do you go?
(SexyAndIKnowIt from LMFAO)
Taveras would get the date because he has seniority and more present skills. I'd take him to the IFC and then to casual yet charming bed and breakfast with a view of the park. (Jason Parks)
2013-04-04 11:00:00 (link to chat)If you could see 3 minor league teams this year, who would they be? Anything especially good in the Sally this year? Yay for real opening day!
(marjinwalker from lunch break)
Rafael DePaula (Yankees); Adalberto Mondesi (Royals); Javier Baez (Cubs). Just to name three that would probably be worth the price of admission. (Jason Parks)
2013-04-04 11:00:00 (link to chat)Where do you see Adalberto Mondesi ranking next year .... top 10? top 20? or does he still have a lot of developing to do?
(lmb326 from jersey)
He still has a lot of development to do, and his bat might struggle at the first season level. A lot of people "scout" the numbers a prospect produces, and if Mondesi doesn't rake, he might not get the love. (Jason Parks)
2013-04-04 11:00:00 (link to chat)Adalberto Mondesi and Gabriel Guerrero walk into a party....
(lpunkari from Fort Frances, Ontario)
And shit gets real (Jason Parks)
2013-04-11 13:00:00 (link to chat)Adalberto Mondesi: if everything goes perfect - can he be the next teenager in the MLB's?
(Tony from Work)
If everything goes perfect, yes. If nothing goes perfect, no. (Matthew Kory)
2013-02-25 11:00:00 (link to chat)Dorssys Paulino, Adalberto Mondesi, and Luis Sardinas. Who rises the most over the next year and who has the highest offensive ceiling?
(kojomoe from oakland)
Mondesi and Sardinas as legit SS prospects; Paulino is most likely a 2B in the end. Paulino has a nice bat; good contact and pop; Mondesi doesn't have a big power ceiling, but can drive the ball and will hit for average; Sardinas is a line-drive type that could hit .300 because of his 7 run. I like Mondesi as the all-around prospect. (Jason Parks on the Top 101 Prospects)
2013-02-05 13:00:00 (link to chat)Any predictions about which outside-the-top-50-or-so prospects might be top-10 prospects in 2014? In other words, who should I draft this year who will make me look really smart next year?
(Dennis from WI)
Adalberto Mondesi has a chance to take another big prospect step forward; Kyle Crick could take a step and become a serious dude. (Jason Parks)
2013-02-05 13:00:00 (link to chat)A buddy who is in this chat right now traded me Adalberto Mondesi for Grady Sizemore in a keeper of all keeper leagues. Please help me in pitying the fool.
(tigerw701 from mpls, mn)
Mondesi is 17, so you will need to keep him for a long time before he reaches the majors. (Jason Parks)
2012-12-13 13:00:00 (link to chat)How does Adalberto Mondesi compare with Profar and Lindor when they were 17-year-olds?
(Gene from LA)
Very similar when it comes to baseball instincts and feel for playing the position. Mondesi doesn't have Profar's bat or offensive upside; closer to Lindor in that regard. He has a chance to be special. (Jason Parks)
