2019-06-28 13:00:00 (link to chat)Starting to worry about German Marquez? Your article last week sold me on him, but now I'm concerned. Dealt Brendan McKay for him and now I regret it.
(Len from Sunshine)
Not really, although there's always legit concern about anybody that makes home starts in Coors.

Just for fun: Marquez 2018 through 6/30 - 17 starts, 5.14 ERA, 93 k/35 bb in 91 innings; Marquez 2019 through 6/28 - 18 starts, 4.29 ERA, 113 k/26 bb in 115 1/3 innings (Mark Barry)
2019-05-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is German Marquez a top 20, top 16, or top 12 pitcher? Second question, is Marquez the greatest Rockies pitcher ever? If not, who?
(Adam from Durham)
Top 25, maybe? With room for more? He's got a 5.87 ERA at home and dudes are hitting .330/.362./536 against him. It was *a little* better last season, but not by much. It's hard to go a lot higher if he's basically a road streamer, which is tough to say, because I do like him.

As for the best pitcher in Rockies history...(*whispers*) It might be Ubaldo. (Mark Barry)
2018-12-19 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who are some of your potential breakout pitchers for 2019 that you are targeting in trades/draft?
(Gary Mack from in the back)
I've been going all out trying to get German Marquez, even though targeting a dude that makes half his starts in Colorado makes me a little queasy. I like Josh James a lot in Houston, and think 2019 could be the year Jack Flaherty and Mike Clevinger become stars. Also, it's become a running joke, but I think Kevin Gausman could finally put it together with a full season in a new spot. (Mark Barry)
2017-05-03 20:00:00 (link to chat)Does German Marquez pitch well enough to make him worth rostering in a 16 tm dynasty?
(David from Denver)
I think so, even though Rockies pitchers always scare me because of the environment (humidor notwithstanding). There just seems to be a limit on value (at least for starters) (David Brown)
2017-03-16 13:00:00 (link to chat)There appears to be a good chance that German Marquez and Cody Reed may both make the starting rotations of the Rocks and Reds, respectively out of spring training. If that is the case, what kind of numbers do you think they will they put up and do you have a preference of one over the other?
(The Quiet Man from NY via Philippines)
I'd rather have Marquez. I don't think either gives you pretty numbers this year. I like both ok in the long run, but don't see more than a mid-rotation starter in either dude. (Matthew Trueblood)
2017-03-16 13:00:00 (link to chat)What do you think of this Kevin Garnett-esqu trade in a 30 team dynasty league: Andrew Benintendi for German Marquez, Jacob Nix, Brock Stewart, Chance Adams, Taylor Trammell, Luis Urias, TJ Friedl, and Ricardo Cespedes?
(Bob from Georgia)
I have no idea whether this is a good trade or not. It depends too much on too many things I don't know. I don't play dynasty leagues. Best guess: if you're willing to trade present for future, I really like the idea and several of these names. Go for it. (Matthew Trueblood)
2016-10-06 14:00:00 (link to chat)German Marquez just sneaked on to MLB's top 100 prospects, can you tell us more about him? Future FV?
(Cole Whittier from Pasadena, CA)
I wrote about Marquez earlier this year (http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=29420). I don't think all that much has changed, and I still think he's better suited for the pen. Probably not Top 101 for me, because I like that type of guy to have a better chance of starting or a better chance of being an impact reliever, but solid major league arm. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2016-08-11 14:00:00 (link to chat)What are your thoughts on German Marquez and Chance Adams? Do you see Marquez developing the secondary stuff to pitch towards the front of a rotation, and is it still a relief profile with Adams given his success this year in AA? Thank you.
(Tim from Jacksonville)
I don't know much about Chance Adams, but I like German Marquez as a potential mid-rotation piece. He has the delivery to start and just needs a bit more consistency with his secondary stuff. I know that's a big "if," but he has the building blocks to do it. (J.P. Breen)
2016-01-29 11:00:00 (link to chat)Where does German Marquez rank now that he's been traded to the Rockies?
(traindoggah from space)
He continues to not rank among the 101 best prospects in baseball. In the org, he's gone from one deep system to another. He wouldn't be among my top-20 in Colorado, off the top of my head. (Top 101 Chat with Craig Goldstein)
