Tater Trot Tracker

Trot Times for May 5

by Larry Granillo

The Tater Trot Tracker has been out of commission for the last couple of days. Apologies for that. Thankfully, we haven't missed all that much. Bryce Harper and Albert Pujols are still homerless. There were no inside-the-park home runs or other shenanigans on the field. There were a few walkoff home runs, which are always fun to watch, and a handful of first career home runs. Hey, not all weekends can give us games for the ages.

Let's get to the full weekend's trots!

Home Run of the Day: Adrian Beltre, Texas Rangers - 23.89 seconds [video]
An eleventh-inning, three-run, pinch-hit home run from the Rangers' third-baseman. Watch the video. Beltre has never had a giant physical presence at the plate in my mind, at least not in the way someone like Mo Vaughn did. In that at-bat, though, it felt a bit different.

There were two reviewed home runs of the weekend, from Jed Lowrie and Jack Hannahan. Both players stopped on the bases before being sent home. Neither trots are included here.

Slowest Trot: Mark Reynolds, Baltimore Orioles - 25.75 seconds [video]
Reynolds hadn't hit a home run all year, but that changed when he reached Fenway Park this weekend, with a home run on Friday and Saturday. The Green Monster was very kind to Reynolds.

Friday's slowest trot belonged to Hanley Ramirez, who entertained his teammates in 25.8 seconds. Thursday's slowest was from JP Arencibia, who took 24.78 seconds.

Quickest Trot: Ryan Roberts, Arizona Diamondbacks - 18.57 seconds [video]
Roberts' home run on Sunday was the second-quickest trot of all 64 home runs hit since Thursday. Only Kansas City's Mike Moustakas on Thursday had a quicker trot at 18.51 seconds. Friday's quickest trot came from Joe Mather, who rounded the bases in 18.66 seconds. Jack Hannahan's reviewed home run would have likely been much faster as he sped around the bases trying to avoid being thrown out. He stopped at third, though, and only came home after the umpires gathered in the clubhouse.
