A couple of options to roster management. AL-Sail has a 40 player roster cap and each team has 10 free agent picks that they use anytime between the end of draft and the trade deadline.

Also, to address injuries started BL-Power Root which is a 10 team BL where each owner has three MLB teams from which to draw players. There is no draft. Through 7 weeks almost no player AAA, only catcher AAA has gotten 3 appearances and 1 AB. Owners maintain a 50 player roster. Players from their 3 teams can be added any time, so long as someone is dropped to make room on the roster. Clearly an all-star effect, but you at least should always have players so the game is more about strategy rather than avoiding injuries. There is an AL and a NL division, each team is assigned one team in each division.

Years ago I played in a NL League with weekly free agent claims. It worked well. I liked it.
