As promised, here are Baseball Prospectus’ rankings for players who play in draft leagues.

This is a list of the top 300 players as ranked by Bret Sayre and Mike Gianella. This list assumes standard 23-man rosters with two catchers, which is why the list is so catcher-heavy at the bottom. If you play in a league with one catcher, adjust accordingly.

ADP is from NFBC ADP, and is updated as of yesterday’s posted rankings at NESN’s website.

We might try to add more functionality to this list in the next update, but wanted to get something to our non-auction subscribers today.

I absolute love Christian Yelich in real life, but I'm not sure I get the gap between Yelich and Choo. Yelich is a young guy that you hope can be Choo with his skill set. They have similar K and BB rates, nearly identical plate discipline, and deliver a potential decent power speed combo. Choo is old and does have injury risk, but not enough to justify 60-70 picks until we know Yelich's power is coming around.

There does not seem to be a lot of consistancy with the tiers (star counts). I assume that's because of various authors having differing views. It does make it harder to integrate the information.
SansRig

The differences in opinion contributes to the richness of the content. Easily integrated and uniform content makes for a passive approach.

(I do realize that this sounds like a fantasy baseball fortune cookie.)

This is just a list of players. The earlier tiered rankings and associated material had justifications for the decisions. That was rich content.

Once I integrated the draft list for sorting with the PFM and tiered rankings, I could see the inconsistancies. There were not that many. Most were improvements on the original rankings. I adjusted the "stars" where I thought appropriate.

In summary, thanks for the draft list, it proved quite helpful in finalizing my own draft guide.

Where would you rank Miggy in leagues where he has 3B eligibility? 3rd?
MikeGianella
3/20
If you believe he's completely healthy, sure. However, I'd probably leave him where he is due to the inherent risk.
modonnell

These rankings disagree with my PFM rankings with standard 5x5 categories. Am I using the wrong settings in the PFM or is this because I am in a snake, straight draft? Some of them are way off, especially the not so common choices, such as Souza ranked 34th overall in the PFM and 185 here.
woof755
3/20
Sort of along these same lines, I have always wondered why the PFM projections (like those seen in the depth charts link) and PECOTA are not the same.
jaybook
3/20
Can't speak for BP, but I believe it's because PFM is based off Pecota projections, while these are the authors' own analysis.
woof755
3/21
Right. My question is why are PFM and PECOTA different?
swarmee
3/23
Does one use weighted mean and one use the 50th %ile projection?
MikeGianella
3/23
Different how? I'm not sure I understand. Are you saying the statistics are different?

The PFM goes off of PECOTA, which is a mechanical projection. These are staff rankings, which take other factors into account.

we're going in part off of our instinct. For Souza to rank that high, he'd have to be a $25 player. He could get there, but paying that seems like folly.

I have the same concern. The draft rankings in this article are way off the draft rankings produced by a standard-league PFM report. How can we have confidence in PFM when these rankings are so wildly different?

Nobody cares how much confidence you have in it. Different people have different projections. Deal with it.

Just my two cents. I'm investing heavily in Jean Segura and Lorenzo Cain. Reason for Segura is that he has been in the league for 3 years and he is only 25. His personal issues sound like they are getting better. The dude is an amazing talent. I set him at .280, 20 HRs, 30 SBs, 60-70 RBI's, 90 runs. Lorenzo Cain is going on 29 but that's OK because he is a late bloomer. I see 15-17 HR's, .275, 40 SBs, 70 RBI(He'll be batting 3rd), 80 runs. Draft these guys late and enjoy the value.

Neither of those guys will hit like that. Cain has barley any power. Maybe 5 homers for cain and 8 or 9 for segura. Don't know where you are getting these numbers from. The stolen bases are okay, but I think segura will stay a 260-270 hitter.

Im in a two catcher league. What are your thoughts on Nick Hundley as #2 in Colorado? He has to have some hidden value that is being missed. If he can hit HR in San Diego then.......

If he plays he could be solid, but with Rosario and McKenry also in the picture it's muddled. He certainly could rank with some of the other catchers on this list toward the bottom.

Considering that the Rusney Castillo projections and the Yelich projections are practically duplicates, the vast difference in ranking is a puzzle.

Rusney might be starting in the minors have something to do with it?

12 team league , 5 x 5 , w OBP instead of BA -adam jones would drop in that case and others should be higher ie Rizzo - who else would you reshuffle?

Would like me some OBP info as well. Need more based on OBP leagues, other than just in passing about certain guys being higher or lower in these leagues. Would like an OBP ranking.

It's a good idea, but the rankings at this point are kind of in beta mode. We'll be discussing integrating things like this at the next staff meeting later this month or in early April.

You have 298 players. The vacancies at 195 and 199 are never filled with duplicated ranks further down. The acutal numbering:
| 191 | Santiago Casilla | RP |
| 192 | Marlon Byrd | OF |
| 193 | Danny Santana | OF |
| 194 | Jake McGee | RP |
| 195 | Joc Pederson | OF |
| 196 | Michael Wacha | SP |
| 197 | Ian Kennedy | SP |
| 198 | Mike Fiers | SP |
| 199 | Matt Cain | SP |
| 200 | Brandon Moss | OF |
shifting players up[ to fill the vacancies.

The rankings were kind of a trial run thing this year. We are going to do in-season ranking updates, but the plan isn't to do customized rankings for every conceivable format. If your NL only is deep, the bid limits I generate should provide a pretty good approximation.
