Nick Struck

Born: 10/07/1989 (Age: 24)
Bats: Right Throws: Right
Height: 6' 0" Weight: 205
Mechanics
Large frame; spare tire/inner tube around waist; large backside; long arm action with a low plunge; wrist wrap in the back; drop-and-drive delivery; big upper body lean over rubber; good lower-half momentum into foot plant; lands stiff without much extension out front; lapses into pitching against his front side rather than over it; throws slightly across his body; spins off toward first base violently with noticeable head jerk; balance issues are prevalent in delivery; throws from a three-quarters slot; arm recoils; 1.4-1.5 seconds to the plate. Pitcher's mechanics are not repeatable given underwhelming athleticism, and as a result, his command will always suffer.

Pitch Type Future Grade Sitting Velocity Peak Velocity Report
Fastball 40 87-91 92 Velocity: average. Command: below-average; pitch was all over the place within the zone and out of it; fastball flattened out up in the zone, leading to hard contact in the air. Movement: average; two-seamer will show sink and arm-side run while the four-seamer will display some cutting action, partially due to the slight cross-fire in his delivery. Comments: This pitch, while average in terms of velocity and movement, is a below-average offering at the major-league level due to major control issues, which are not projected to get better due to delivery quirks and the lack of athleticism.
Curveball 50 79-82 83 Command: below average; left the pitch over the heart of the plate and failed to effectively locate it in order to generate whiffs. Movement: above-average; sharp 11/5 break late in the pitch's trajectory; break can get a little big/long at times with some hump, but at its best, pitch could generate swings-and-misses out of the zone. Comments: This could be an above-average offering based on the movement, but the below-average command profile spoils the party and will limit the pitch's efficacy.
Changeup 40 81-83   Command: below-average; pitcher displayed little confidence in the pitch, leaving it up and hanging; poor control. Movement: below-average; pitch showed slight arm-side run but was mostly straight without much movement. Comments: This is a below-average offering due to his inability to locate the pitch and its poor movement.
Overall

Struck grades out as an organizational arm. His raw OFP is slightly higher than the final grade given, but bad body language and a tendency to get visibly frustrated when unable to make his pitch pulls the overall grade down slightly. Struck's arsenal requires that he be precise with his pitches, but bad mechanics and an inability to repeat them disallows the pitcher from spotting his pitches with regularity.
