Rodríguez's game aspires to be that of a Quad-A cult favorite. His big personality fits in the game; his swing-and-miss penchant doesn't. (Or, given the recent trends, maybe it does?) He will always have a spot on a team due to his joie de vivre and his infield versatility, coupled with the fact that pitchers often throw fastballs and Rodríguez has a way of turning some of those fastballs into home runs. With his not-so-secret passion of being a musician, it would be nice to see El Felino have a complete season of 25-30 home runs then write music about how he once did that. You'd do the same thing.

After 800 games as a minor leaguer followed by minor-league free agency, the toolsy Rodriguez finally reached the bigs, at which point his peculiar bat wielding — holding the bat vertical for a while, then parallel completely above his head — resulted in the Batting Stance Guy treatment. A midseason slump resulted in hitting coach Lloyd McClendon cleaning up the approach and ditching the idiosyncrasies, not unlike Wilson in Cast Away. He's an average hitter with double-digit-homer potential and can play anywhere, including shortstop, so he'll likely have a major-league job for now. But if things ever turn south, he can fall back on his winter gig: musician. As "El Felino," his YouTube record page has over 19,000 subscribers, with one song reaching 300,000 views, which is more than he'll ever get for his now-mundane but solid stance.

Ronny Rodriguez had his second straight year of backsliding after a breakout 2012; he's playing the corner infield spots a lot more these days, another hit to his stock.

Rodriguez burst onto the scene with 19 homers in High-A during his second professional season, then took his lumps in Double-A last year, as many evaluators predicted. The Dominican infielder first signed with the Cubs in 2008, but that contract was voided when he attended high school in Boston, which forced him to wait until 2010 to join the Tribe. By that point, Rodriguez was behind on the development curve, and three years later the chinks in his armor came to light. There is four-tool potential here, though Rodriguez needs to shore up his plate approach for his power to play and improve his footwork to utilize his 70-grade arm at shortstop. Doing one of those in a repeat stint at Akron would revive his prospect stock; doing both could make Rodriguez a quality regular.

Nice power for his size and age, but there isn’t much else to Rodriguez's offensive game. Thankfully, the power alone may be enough to carry him offensively, when matched with the defense value of his great arm. There is still debate about whether he profiles as an eventual shortstop or second baseman, though obviously sticking at the former would give him a lot more leeway at the dish. His overly aggressive approach stunts his potential for batting average, especially since right-handers eat him alive. Lefties, meanwhile, don’t stand a chance against him. This is becoming a running theme with the team’s prospects: He is still far off, leaving a lot unanswered at this early point. Cleaning up his approach against righties should be his first order of business, though.

The numbers aren't there for Ronny Rodriguez, but several quality tools are, and that's what's important for such a young player at a premium position.
