2017-03-29 14:00:00 (link to chat)Does Matt Thaiss move quickly through the Angels' system?
(Buddy from Peoria, IL)
He might. It's not like the Angels have a ton of reasons to keep C.J. Cron in an everyday role, not to mention Luis Valbuena. But, I worry about first basemen in the minors. You need to absolutely rake, and he certainly has hit, but too often teams kind of sit back with first basemen until they're fully marinated, or at least that's what I'm inclined to think. I'd say he might get his first cup of coffee this year and be up for good after the trade deadline in 2018, especially if the Angels aren't competitive. (Trevor Strunk)
2017-03-22 20:00:00 (link to chat)Will Matt Thaiss hit for power eventually?
(Eric from Canada)
James Fisher saw him after the draft and thought he'd hit for average power. I wouldn't make too much hay out of a just-okay ISO in A-ball coming off the college season.

Wish I knew why he wasn't catching, though. (Jarrett Seidler)
2017-02-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Gleyber Torres the most overhyped prospect in baseball right now?
(Thomas from LA)
Depends on how you choose to quantify over-hypeness. Are we talking a pure delta, (hype - talent)? Or are we looking at more of a percentage, like (hype / talent)? Because if it's the latter, there's no way Torres is more overhyped, relative to his own means, than Angels no. 2 prospect Matt Thaiss, who is probably both not a good baseball player and one of the main hopes for a large number of fans. So I'm going to say that we need to stop with all the Matt Thaiss hype. (Patrick Dubuque)
2017-01-06 13:00:00 (link to chat)What do you think of Angels prospect Matt Thaiss?
(Buddy from Peoria, IL)
I think he'd be a Top 101 prospect as a catcher. As a first baseman, well being a first base prospect is incredibly hard. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2016-09-12 23:00:00 (link to chat)What are some of the prospects you're most looking forward to seeing next year?
(Justin from NY)
Well, unfortunately the Astros and Rangers are gettin' stole by those dirty, dastardly Carolinians, but the Cal should still have some interesting talent piping in, highlighted by what should be just a stupid Lake Elsinore rotation with Espinoza, Quantrill, and Lauer. I hope Anfernee Greier crushes his full-season debut and gets bumped aggressively, because he's a dude I'm real curious to see in the flesh. Though he might get traded for a a 34-year-old back-up catcher this winter, so who knows. Skye Bolt's a kid I liked on the Cape, but who hasn't exactly hit the ground running, be interested to see what he looks like nowadays. Matt Thaiss might be the first legitimately interesting prospect to come through Inland Empire since Sean Newcomb's brief stint in the first half of last year. (Wilson Karaman)
