DateQuestionAnswer
2017-10-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)Does Bo Bichette's bat wrap behind his head in his load phase concern you when it comes to facing more advanced pitchers?
(Jason from Tampa)
Not really, but it could stand to be simplified a bit. His hands are so quick that it mitigates whatever drawback that the bat wrap brings, and he still makes hard contact almost all the time. It's not a problem unless it becomes one, imo. (Brett Cowett)
2017-09-07 20:00:00 (link to chat)Within the context of a deep dynasty, if you were going to load up on prospects with an ETA of late 2018/2019/early 2020 for a single position (CI, MI included), which position would you choose and why? Who would some of the standout names be for you?
(Punchoutpappy from First In Flight)
I'd load up on shortstops because a lot of non-shortstops in the majors started out as shortstops. Plus, the current crop is deep: Gleyber Torres, Kevin Maitan, Delvin Perez, Brandan Rodgers, Willy Adames, Bo Bichette, Jorge Mateo, Nick Gordon, Isan Diaz... (Scooter Hotz)
2017-08-24 19:00:00 (link to chat)Greetings, Ben. If you had to hang your hat on one guy becoming a superduperstar, who would it be out of Fernando Tatis, Jr, Forest Whitley, Juan Soto, or Bo Bichette?
(Gleyber from Rehab)
Hey Gleyber, hope your elbow's feeling better.

To answer your question, gimme the Dominican Bryce Harper in Juan Soto. That nickname *might* be a bit of an exaggeration, but Little Miggy is doing okay now, I guess. I love Whitley, but pitchers gonna pitcher, and I'm not quite sold on Bichette's real upside just yet. Tatis is right under Soto, but I can't stop thinking about the impact Soto's bat could have in the big leagues. (Ben Diamond)
2017-07-31 23:00:00 (link to chat)I'm in a 7 keeper league with a twist. We have MiLB draft (2/yr) and prospects are "free" keepers for 3 yr. following their promotion. I traded a contender Chris Sale for Xander, Mejia (MiLB controlled) and Bo Bichette (MiLB). I know I gave the best asset, but felt the younger SS keeper and the additional assets will help me in the next 3 yrs. What say you?
(Loria from Milwaukee)
That's not a bad haul, tho for this and many other things in life to make sense, Xander's gonna have to start hitting like Xander again, preferably sooner than later. (Wilson Karaman)
2017-07-31 23:00:00 (link to chat)If I have Victor Robles, Ronald Acuna, Rhys Hoskins, Eloy Jimenez, Kyle Tucker, Juan Soto and Fernando Tatis Jr on my minor league dynasty roster, who do I drop, if anyone, to add Bo Bichette?
(Steve from AZ)
Uh...I think I speak for all of us when I say $#%& YOU! I dunno man, trade one of those dudes (Soto? Tatis? Hoskins?) for an awesome player, immediately pick up Bichette, cackle, remember you're supposed to act like you've been there before, take a breath, compose yourself, lose control, cackle again. (Wilson Karaman)
2017-07-25 20:00:00 (link to chat)Fernando Tatis Jr - top SS prospect in 2 years?
(Eric from TX)
He's definitely in the discussion. I think it depends on the status of Amed Rosario, Brendan Rodgers and Bo Bichette.
-Nathan (Emmett Rosenbaum & Nathan Graham)
2017-07-25 20:00:00 (link to chat)Fantasy wise - Bo Bichette or Fernando Tatis Jr?
(Elias from NJ)
Bo. I think he'll provide more production with the bat. -Emmett (Emmett Rosenbaum & Nathan Graham)
2017-07-25 20:00:00 (link to chat)So far in life, Bo Bichette has been about the best hitter (at least statistically) in every league he's played in since, and including high school. Now that he's in high-A and is doing more of the same, what kind of cap do you put on him offensively? Seems to me that he could easily be a plus hit plus power 2B if he can continue to improve even just a little bit
(lipsgardner from The shower)
Yeah, you pretty much nailed it. I think it will be plus hit, plus power. You should read Steve's piece on him, he thinks so too.
http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=32313

-Emmett (Emmett Rosenbaum & Nathan Graham)
2017-07-25 20:00:00 (link to chat)Funniest/most interesting thing you heard a scout say while watching Vladito and Bo Bichette?
(CB from Michigan)
Scout are usually pretty stoic when watching players, but one sitting next to me let out a grunt of surprise/approval after Vladito smoked a ball once. He's actually the only player this season that I've seen draw audible responses like that from scouts. He's good man.
-Emmett (Emmett Rosenbaum & Nathan Graham)
2017-07-06 12:00:00 (link to chat)In a 30 team dynasty league, would you trade Eloy Jimenez, Bo Bichette, and Juan Soto for Yoan Moncada?
(Bobba Fett from Death Star)
No, I would want multiple shots at the All-star level outcome given the volatility of prospects. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-07-06 12:00:00 (link to chat)Is there a pun that an editor made you remove that you wish you could have back in the article? Recent chat question makes me realize Bo Bichette isn't far from Boba Fett in terms of sound, but I'm only 80% of the way to a joke with it.
(Steve from CRAIGSMELLSYLVANIA)
Craig knows better than to try and edit me. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-07-06 12:00:00 (link to chat)Do guys like Ryan Mountcastle and Bo Bichette figure to move to 2B before having to venture to the OF? Not being able to handle SS is one thing, but surely they can handle the keystone... am I wrong?
(Matt from KY)
You aren't, but some of this comes down to organization need, some of it to how their bodies develop and where the toolset fits best. There is of course a big gap in the offensive bar between second base and left field, so you ideally want to put the "not sticking as shortstop guys" as far left on the defensive spectrum as you can. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-06-12 19:00:00 (link to chat)If eligible would Bo Bichette have been picked 1st?
(Sam from NYC)
Probably not, he would've been picked higher last season if he had less risk. He still isn't a slam dunk at SS, and while his numbers at Low-A are impressive, we still need to see him against consistently better pitching. (Steve Givarz live during the MLB Draft)
2017-06-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Bo Bichette - the next big prospect?
(Dan from DC)
Okay, here's a little inside BP chats for those of you who aren't familiar--chat questions can be submitted in advance. This one, from Dan, is one. And I wrote out my answer when I got it. As you'll see, I changed my mind some as the days progressed and the Bo Bichette questions kept on coming. Anyway, my initial thought was: I am not someone you should necessarily trust about prospects-let me restate that, you can probably safely ignore anything I say about prospects-but I am not super high on Bichette, because I don't entirely trust his bloodlines. (Sorry, I live in a horse racing town.) I'll say this-if he can sustain this level of offense when he's promoted to AA New Hampshire, I'm totally wrong. But until then, I'd take Vlad Jr. first. (Rob Mains)
2017-06-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Rob, Will Bo Bichette be a major league shortstop and how will he hit regardless of position?
(Cal Guy from Cal)
Answered most of this earlier, but yes, I think his bat'll play, if not to the level we're seeing now. With Tulo under contract through 2020 it seems as if he appears in Toronto initially as a second baseman, but yeah, he should get into games at short. (Rob Mains)
2017-06-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)How good can Bo Bichette be? Top 20 prospect by the end of the season?
(Dave from Columbus)
OK, I'm higher on him than I was at the start of the chat! His bat. Man, that's a bat. Lansing (where he's playing now) is a hitter's park, but a 1.102 OPS compared to a league average of .705 is, as they say, good. As for being Top 20, that's always dependent on who gets called up and loses their rookie status, but yes, I could see it. I don't know how much the glove is going to help him, though. (Rob Mains)
2017-07-13 14:00:00 (link to chat)Bo Bichette or Fernando Tatis Jr -- purely fantasy wise
(Dave from San Fran)
Gimme Bo. (Mark Barry)
2017-06-27 20:00:00 (link to chat)Purely Fantasy - Carter Kieboom or Bo Bichette. Or is there a better up and coming SS?
(Bradley from Chicago\)
Bichette, but neither is a particularly good bet to stay at short. (Jarrett Seidler)
2017-06-27 20:00:00 (link to chat)Who are some of the guys in A-ball who are having or could have breakout years like the ones we've seen in the past (Acuna, Soto, Robles, etc)... Looking to stash a few of them on my roster.
(Willy from Yonkers)
Nobody quite as out of nowhere as those guys, but Bo Bichette and Sixto Sanchez have both jumped from off the 101 to top-tier guys (Jarrett Seidler)
2017-06-27 20:00:00 (link to chat)Top 3 SS prospects in 2019 will be?
(John from Columbus)
Brendan Rodgers, Bo Bichette, and Fernando Tatis (Jarrett Seidler)
2017-06-13 12:00:00 (link to chat)Bo Bichette - the next big prospect?
(Dan from DC)
He's a candidate. He's been really impressive so far this year. (Craig Goldstein)
2017-05-15 17:00:00 (link to chat)Who is the better prospect for fantasy, Bo Bichette or Carter Kieboom?
(cracker73 from Florida)
Bichette has more of a ceiling but I still like Kieboom better, even in fantasy. (Mike Gianella)
2017-05-08 20:00:00 (link to chat)Bo Bichette - a future top 10 prospect?
(Craig from CT)
I don't know if he gets to top 10, but he's definitely been awesome so far. If he can turn a few of those doubles into homers, it's not out of the question. (Mark Barry)
2017-05-03 20:00:00 (link to chat)Bo Bichette going to be a top 25 prospect by the end of the season?
(Charles from Toronto)
I will defer slightly to Wilson Karaman, who has written about Bichette a couple of times. As a hitter, he seems to be a force. Check out this post on how he generates bat speed http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=31601. It used to be PAY ONLY but for you, the chatters, I have made it free (for a while). The question with Bichette seems to be, will he play short in the bigs? The answer at the moment seems to be "maybe." Scouts are mixed on the answer. He played second in high school, which seems odd to me, because he's a shortstop now, but HE says he's more of a SS kind of guy on D. To answer the question finally, I'd say there's a good chance of him being top 25. (David Brown)
2017-05-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)Bo Bichette or Carter Kieboom - Purely Fantasy?
(Ed from Toronto)
Bichette (George Bissell)
2017-05-22 23:00:00 (link to chat) For purely fantasy - Carter Kieboom or Bo Bichette?
(Seth from NYC)
I'll take Bichette because I'm a sucker for violent swings with violent results. I like Kieboom a lot too though, wrote optimistic things about him pre-season. He just sustained what sounds like a fairly significant hamstring injury, unfortunately, which'll likely knock him out for a while. Bummer given the early groove. (Wilson Karaman)
2017-05-22 23:00:00 (link to chat)Is Dustin Pedroia a good playing style comparison for Bo Bichette at peak development?
(JJ83 from Toronto)
Laser Show ain't a good playing style comp for literally *anyone*, ever. Guy's a lunatic, in the best possible way. I can see where you're coming from, though. (Wilson Karaman)
2017-05-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)Bo Bichette the next big SS prospect? If not him, who?
(Danny from Toronto)
If you think he is a shortstop long term, definitely. If you don't--and I'm skeptical--he's still a very good prospect. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-05-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)For purely fantasy - Carter Kieboom or Bo Bichette?
(Seth from NYC)
Man, this is well within the fudge factor for me, both potential plus offensive forces, both probably not shortstops long term, it might come down to ultimate positional home, but I think I'd take Kieboom's bat at this point. Might change my mind in a week though. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-05-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who are some names that might make the midseason top 50 who weren't in the top 100? Let's exclude fringe top 100 guys like Vlad Jr, Bo Bichette. More curious about out-of-nowhere guys, if any.
(RizzMiggz from Las Vegas, NV)
It's unusual to get big jumpers like that I think. I tend to be pretty conservative even after two months of baseball, although it does give us actual time to see more guys and gather more info. You do get the occasional now-healthy pitcher or Ronald Acuna. I would guess Brito and Mitch White get discussed. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-04-28 13:30:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Bo Bichette and his start? Hit well last year and seems to have carried it over to A-ball.
(Rich from Toledo, OH)
He's an exciting talent, and I'm interested in learning more. The good start at full-season ball is encouraging and the bat speed is real as hell. He's definitely one to keep an eye on. (Craig Goldstein)
2017-02-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)Yo George. It seems a smart move is to draft low minor SS. Heading into this season some early targets on my list are Miguelangel Sierra and Fernando Tatis Jr. I am not sure how to interpret their performances from last year and what to expect. Care to hit us with some knowledge on these players to make a informed decision?
(David from Not Sure)
Hey there. Um. I have irrational love for Bo Bichette. It's always difficult to assess hitters in the low minors that are nearly half a decade away from the majors. I think you have to start off by gauging the defense. Can this hitter stick at shortstop? If yes, then it becomes about future projection, not necessarily scouting the stat-line. Park factors and environments matter too. (George Bissell)
