2017-09-18 23:00:00 (link to chat)OK, time to make some declarations with the MiLB season almost done. Biggest surprise (for better or worse) of any prospect this year? Why?
(Po Boy from NO)
Hmmm...I'll go with Yadier Alvarez's struggles to control the strike zone. He's still growing into his (large) body, so I'm not surprised he had *some* trouble with repeatability and inconsistent command in the here and now. But the delivery and the stuff is just so easy that I was a little surprised that he didn't demonstrate more feel and timing than he did. The delivery needs a better flow than it has, but perhaps we just need to wait a little longer until he harnesses his man body before we can start to see that.

Here's what I'm talking about w/r/t timing/command: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2YyLLMwJaU

On the positive side, it's hard not to point and devolve into profanity-laced marvel at what Ronald Acuna did this season. Kid's been an utter and complete monster, and I'm not sure anyone quite saw THAT level coming from him (or anybody), especially on the heels of injury last season. (Wilson Karaman)
2017-06-13 12:00:00 (link to chat)Yadier Alvarez has looked pretty bad this year. Ks are down, walks back up, ratios below average. Simply adjusting to high-A?
(Scott B. from Manvera, SC)
Has he looked bad or just performed badly? Reports I've seen are largely on track with what we knew about him before. Easy plus-plus velocity, flashes a nasty breaker, change in progress. Needs to be in the zone more. All of this was true before he started slow in high-a and all of it is true now. It's part of the development process. (Craig Goldstein)
2017-05-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)What's going on with Yadier Alvarez? Two no shows on days he's scheduled to start?
(Mike from California )
Two truths and a lie: I am not a prospects guy. He was drinking expensive booze the night before one game and golfing the day before the other, and they both gave him migraines. This is exactly the type of question that you should've given Jeffrey Paternostro last Thursday.
(I checked the minor league park factors at milb.com and I would say that if I were scheduled to start in Lancaster, High Desert, or Bakersfileld-HR park factors of 1.8, 1.5, and 1.4, respectively-I might seriously consider the migraine strategy)
Sorry, not a prospects guy. (Rob Mains)
2017-03-22 20:00:00 (link to chat)Who pitches more 2018 MLB innings? Alex Reyes or Yadier Alvarez?
(Chris from MD)
Hmmm, good question. Reyes should be back pretty darned close to the start of the season, and even if Alvarez is a 2018 MLB option, one would have to think that a.) the Dodgers are going to limit his innings something fierce and b.) he won't be up until after service time considerations.

So I'll take Reyes. (Jarrett Seidler)
2017-03-22 20:00:00 (link to chat)Better dynasty league option to draft: Yadier Alvarez or Jason Groome?
(Jquinton82 from NY)
We ranked Alvarez slightly higher on the real 101 but Groome slightly higher on the dynasty 101. I guess I'll go with Bret and Ben in that I think Groome has a higher probability to stick in the rotation and I think that's something that really matters for y'all. (Jarrett Seidler)
2017-01-06 13:00:00 (link to chat)Would it be fair to say that Yadier Alvarez has the same potential as Alex Reyes, as a possible front-line starter?
(Ron from Texarkana)
Ehhhhhhhhh, okay I can maybe see that, as long as we acknowledge that is much, much further down the line, and there is a lot more risk. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-01-18 20:00:00 (link to chat)Yadier Alvarez has not been rated very high by anyone, possibly because of his age & limited performance. This guy was paid enormous money to sign relative to what other top prospects were signing for. Give us some projection and possible comps on the upside. Thanks.
(Cubbie Bear from CHI-TOWN)
Uhh, we just ranked him as the top prospect in one of the strongest farm systems in baseball. He could be a borderline SP1. (Bret Sayre)
2016-08-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Yadier Alvarez the best prospect in the Dodgers system?
(DD from LA)
Not yet. I'd still say De Leon, Verdugo and Bellinger are ahead. At this point next year, it wouldn't surprise me at all if he was. (Christopher Crawford)
2016-08-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)Dylan Cease or Yadier Alvarez?
(BomboRiviera from Lancaster)
MAN. That's tough! It's so early in the morning, why are you asking me such tough questions!

Ya know what? I'm not choosing. I am passing. This is too hard.

Fine. Alvarez. (Christopher Crawford)
2016-06-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)Has there been any news updates on Yadier Alvarez, and do you like him or Sandy Alcantara more for a dynasty league?
(Ron from Texarkana)
Haven't heard much on Alvarez lately. I'll probably take Alcantara right now because of less volatility but Alvarez much higher upside. (Christopher Crawford)
2016-03-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)I need 1 more player for my fantasy minor league team. The choice is a SP prospect (Kolby Allard, Amir Garrett, Josh Hader, Grant Holmes, Yadier Alvarez or Dylan Cease), position player (Dominic Smith or Trent Clark) or lottery ticket (Willie Calhoun). Which SP and position player would you choose and also your overall pick, taking into account not only ceiling/floor but also proximity to the bigs (the closer the better).
(paladin from philippines)
I really like a bunch of those dudes. Calhoun can be a special hitter, but he's a butcher defensively and loses value if (when) he moves to the OF. Allard and Garrett are two really high-upside arms, and Alvarez could turn into any pitcher you can think of (good or bad). I probably go Clark there, but you've got options depending on what you're into. (Wilson Karaman)
2016-01-29 11:00:00 (link to chat)Would Lazarito have made the list if he had signed? Were Yadier Alvarez or Alfredo Rodriguez close to making the list?
(roarke from KC)
Yadier Alvarez is No. 78 on the list. Lazarito wouldn't have been on mine. (Top 101 Chat with Craig Goldstein)
2016-01-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who are your top 3 prospects from last years draft and recent int'l signings?
(mbeemsterboer from Wisconsin)
From the draft it'd be Brendan Rodgers, Dansby Swanson and Dillon Tate. From the international signings it'd be Yadier Alvarez, Eddy Julio Martinez and Vlad Guerrero, Jr. (Christopher Crawford)
