2015-06-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)Thanks for the chat, Jeff!! What are your thoughts about a comp for Miguel Sano?? Also, when should we expect to see him in Minny?
(Mike from Minneapolis )
Troy Glaus. He could be up by the end of this year, though he's still getting his timing back. A year away from the game is a long time, especially for a guy who already struck out a lot. If he hadn't missed a full year, he'd already be in the majors. The Twins are also getting some production from Trevor Plouffe so there's no desperation there, though they need another bat, especially a power one, so they could find a way to squeeze him in the lineup somehow. (Jeff Moore)
2014-05-13 11:00:00 (link to chat)Two questions regarding Kris Bryant 1. Who is a good comp for him? Longoria? 2. If he were playing this whole year in the majors what would you expect his stat line to look like by seasons end? Thanks big dog.
(Opi from Sheboygan )
1) Maybe Troy Glaus; 2) Bryant in the majors this season? He'd get abused but would still manage to hit some bombs. Very low batting average, 10-15 HR. (Jason Parks)
2010-08-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)Atlanta's offense has looked utterly moribund since the break, and the Phillies are tearing through the NL sans Utley. Time for Braves fans/front office to start panicking?
(atlexile from Detroit)
I would like to see them call up Captain Marvel Jr, Freddie Freeman, and give him a shot instead of the dead-in-the-water Troy Glaus (last 40 games: .187/.325/.306). I guess they weren't about to bid on Adam Dunn, or didn't get anywhere when they did. I don't see too many big bats sliding through waivers, so they may be stuck with internal options and hoping that Rick Ankiel shows a little life. (Steven Goldman)
2010-07-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)I've been offered Stephen Drew and Troy Glaus for Zobrist. I've needed a 1B since Morales went down. Does 2nd half Glaus = 1st half and any word on Drew's knee?
(Mark from Milwaukee)
Is this a keeper league, or single-season? (Marc Normandin)
2009-12-15 14:00:00 (link to chat)Assuming the Twins go with Nick Punto at one spot, who would be a good fit for the Twins at either 2B or 3B?
(russadams from Baffin Bay)
I keep hoping they'll think in terms of adding offense at third base, and letting Punto do his thing at second (in part because he could then lose the job to Casilla if he ever pans out). If money were an issue, I'd still be interested in seeing if Tejada would take a low deal, or seeing what Troy Glaus is capable of on an incentive-laden deal. (Christina Kahrl)
2009-10-05 16:00:00 (link to chat)The O's have said they are looking for a right handed clean-up hitter who plays one of the infield corner positions. Does this person exist? Is he likely to be available this off-season?
(TGisriel from Baltimore)
Not really. I mean Troy Glaus is the closest to fit that bill but color me skeptical that he's still a cleanup hitter and that he can play a corner infield position. There are lefties like Branyan and LaRoche, but few 1B/3B righties along those lines. (Eric Seidman)
2009-07-01 14:00:00 (link to chat)What one move would put an NL Central team in the driver's seat? Was De Rosa enough? I still hold out hope that the Reds are going to get a bat, but I suspect I'm kidding myself.
(jromero from seattle)
I think the division is the Cardinals' to win, even with the twin wild cards of sorting out what they'll get from Troy Glaus and Khalil Greene this season. If the answer is 'nothing,' that's where I begin to wonder if the Brewers won't take a chance and add a starting pitcher. That said, if they entertain offers from Alcides Escobar, here's hoping that they get a hurler under contract through at least 2010. (Christina Kahrl)
2009-05-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)Joe, has there been any word on Troy Glaus?
(TheFont9 from Boston)
He's working out with his own trainer in Arizona, so there's just no way to get info on it. (Will Carroll)
2008-10-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)Obviously not NLCS related, but I can't remember the last time a visiting team just hit moonshot after moonshot over the Green Monster without breaking a sweat. The Rays are going to be seriously scary for the next 5 years.
(Joel from GA)
It is remarkable. The previous high in homers during three consecutive regular season games for the Rays this year was nine, and they've hit 10 in the past three playoff games. The previous high for homers given up by the Sox pitching staff in a three game stretch this year was seven. It looks like Upton was really bothered by the shoulder during the year, and that that has fully cleared up, because he is just crushing balls--as David Laurila said, a blind person in the stands would have recognized his homer in Game Three just by the crack of the bat. Both him and Longoria now have five October homers, and the AL playoff record is seven, by Troy Glaus in 2002. (Caleb Peiffer)
2008-08-15 15:00:00 (link to chat)Can you explain to me why the Angels have handled Brandon Wood the way they have? Calling him up to sit on the bench? Are you at all impressed by his recent lack of Ks?
(Gray from Chicago)
I think part of the problem is identifying what Wood is--there was a point when people could reasonable see the new Troy Glaus or something, when we might instead have the new Kelly Gruber or, if he stays at short, Jose Hernandez. That's a much different proposition, especially on a team that these days is far more easily impressed by the slappy aggression and basepaths violence of an Erick Aybar. A long swing is a terrible thing to have on the bench, though, since it's almost certain to go stale; if Wood's going to be up, he needs to play, and if avoiding strikeouts for some short stretch is the only way for him to get Mickey Hatcher's imprimatur, so be it. (Christina Kahrl)
2008-05-27 13:00:00 (link to chat)can the cardinals' defense be as good as the hardball times suggests?
(jalonzo from NYC)
I know that the Cardinals are very cognizant of the need to put a good defense out there on the field, and very willing to look at all sorts of metrics to facilitate that. At the same time, we're showing people like Troy Glaus has having had very strong defensive seasons, and that is liable to change. (Nate Silver)
2008-01-15 14:30:00 (link to chat)Speaking of change of scenery, who looks better after yesterday's deal, Scott Rolen or Troy Glaus? Or is the answer so health-dependent that we don't know until somebody gets hurt? (Any chance of a joint profile on both of these guys?)
(BillJ from New Mexico)
A joint profile, eh? I was going to cover them in a BP Fantasy Beat piece tomorrow, a third base review, but we'll see what happens down the line.

Rolen should see his numbers improve in the homer-rific Rogers Centre, and Glaus will see his go the other way thanks to St. Louis' homer reduction. It does depend on who gets on the field the most though. (Marc Normandin)
