2007		At 35, Adam Hyzdu`s main achievement is remaining a professional for so long. His Triple-A translations suggest he wouldn`t do much to help a big league club at this point.
2004		The line between major leaguer and minor leaguer is so very thin for some players. Hyzdu will go into spring training trying to get Boston's fifth-outfielder spot, a job that will be much more accessible if the Sox go with 14 position players. Because Boston acquired Curt Schilling-giving them another workhorse starting pitcher-they are more likely to do just that. The biggest moves in the game affect pennant races and profit margins and fan bases, but they also impact 31-year-old guys just trying to get another chance to stick. Root for Hyzdu, because the line between us and our dreams justt as thin as the one that separates him from his.
2003		Lots of people have been rooting for Hyzdu, who has been playing pro ball since 1990. A competitive and intelligent player, Hyzdu has power to all fields but is pretty much a mistake hitter. Nevertheless, he did have his moments in 2002, most of them in July, when he batted .379 with five long balls. After that, he slumped terribly in the last two months. A power bat is an asset to have on any bench; too bad for Hyzdu that he’s stuck on the Pirates’ pine.
2002		Hyzdu didn’t really do enough in his first extended big-league opportunity to give himself a shot at a significant pension, although his five home runs may get him a return engagement with the Pirates anyway. One would hope that some major-league teams noticed that Hyzdu wasn’t overmatched by major-league pitchers. Still, Hyzdu is more of a Quadruple-A hitter; then again, so is Derek Bell, and you see what that got him.
2001		He's a minor-league lifer who finally got his first cup of coffee last season, three years after the Red Sox ignored him when he was hitting well in their system. Adam Hyzdu doesn’t have much of a future in Pittsburgh, but he does have patience and power and can even play a little outfield. As long as there are guys like him kicking around, there's no reason for any team to pay more than the minimum for an average DH.
1997		Hyzdu has apparently mastered AA after over 1000 at bats. Another corner outfielder, but a pretty good defensive one. He’s being converted to catcher this winter, a move that works only slightly more often than Bud Selig smiles. Vlad loves him, I’m more skeptical because of the position change.
1996		Continues to show slight improvement, but needs a breakout year to be a factor at the major league level. Reggie Sanders is the only Reds outfielder with an established job, so a few good weeks at AAA could vault Hyzdu to Riverfront right quick. I don't think he has it in him.
