2018 Bandy surprised everyone with a .300-plus batting average in April; however, much like The Bravery's self-titled debut that featured the smash hit “An Honest Mistake,” the rest of the performance stunk. The 27-year-old catcher hit just .158/.252/.233 with five extra-base hits once the calendar flipped past the season's first month—making it a truly Swollen Summer. To put that in perspective, there were 11 pitchers (min. 50 plate appearances) who compiled a better slugging percentage than Bandy's post-April mark of .233. He should be thankful, just for his own ego's sake, that none of those 11 pitchers were in his own dugout.
2017 The injuries and ineffectiveness that plagued Geovany Soto and Carlos Perez allowed Bandy to drink their milkshakes and stake out his tract behind the Anaheim dish last season. His long swing guarantees low batting averages and he’ll never be an OBP threat, but Bandy can put a serious dent in a fastball and is a threat to launch 20-plus bombs in a full season. He’s worked hard to improve his receiving skills and is an average pitch framer, and while his offensive numbers wilted down the stretch last year his infectious enthusiasm never did. Bandy will never be a star, but he has the makeup, arm and power to be a league-average backstop.
2015 The Conger trade opens up the backup catcher gig, so a strong spring might push Jett Bandy into another tax bracket faster than anticipated. He once appeared a lock to join the One Percent when a strong sophomore campaign at the University of Arizona lifted him into upper-round consideration, but he tanked as a junior and fell all the way to the 31st round, where the Halos signed him for peanuts. He's proven to be a deft glove behind the plate, with surprisingly smooth agility for a big guy. Last year, his strength finally translated at the plate, and he showed more consistent pull power than ever before. Whether or not he makes the Angels out of spring training, he'll see plenty of MLB playing time through his option years.

2017-01-31 19:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Andrew Susac in Milwaukee? Will he win the starting role and be a top 10 fantasy catcher? He has good pedigree and was just stuck behind the best catcher in the league...
(Rodney R. from Los Banos)
We've reached the Susac portion of the chat...

I don't see any reason why he shouldn't be the starter in Milwaukee. I'm not too scared of Jett Bandy the baseball player. Now Jett Bandy the 80s movie villain, that's another story. Top 10 could be a bit optimistic, though. (Mark Barry)
