2019-09-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)Nice under-the-radar season by Mark Canha.
(Buddy from Peoria, IL)
Absolutely! I really enjoyed this Athletic article by Marc Carig on Canha: https://theathletic.com/1167464/2019/09/03/one-of-the-most-valuable-players-on-this-team-how-creativity-fuels-breakout-season-for-as-mark-canha/ (Craig Goldstein)
2018-07-10 20:00:00 (link to chat)Any players in AAA, playing part time in majors, etc that you can see a breakout if they got dealt? Toles comes to mind
(Vin from LaLaland)
Toles is actually #1 in my Stash List coming out Thursday. We haven't seen him enough against LHP to determine whether he can handle them (and thus breakout), but he's fared well in the minors this year against them. Is Mark Canha a bad answer? Colin Moran is having a solid season and I think he can tap into more power with this new profile of his. (Eddy Almaguer)
2017-06-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Looking toward next season for the A's, they've got a lot of guys who are DHs, or should be DHs. So of Khris Davis, Ryon Healy, Mark Canha, Matt Olson, and Renato Nunez, where would you put everyone?
(Dave from San Francisco)
Ooh, good question, and thanks for asking it in advance so I could look up some stuff. Let's look at age and contracts: Davis (29) arb eligible in 2018, Healy (25) 2020, Canha (28) 2018, Olson (23) 2020, Nunez (22) 2020. Ideally? Keep Davis in left, Healy at DH, Nunez and Olson backing up the corners, in that order, due to Nunez's flexibility. This being the A's, though, it's not hard to see Davis getting traded, which opens up left for, probably, Canha for the rest of this season and Olson for 2018. I don't see Canha sticking with the club. I should add that Beane seems to become more inscrutable every season, so I'll probably be wrong about everything. (Rob Mains)
2016-01-21 19:00:00 (link to chat)Man, one of your readers is a slimy, double-crossing, no good swindler, who's got a lot of guts stealing Jabari Blash off waivers while I was refreshing questions. So I guess it's Yorman Rodriguez or...Mark Canha? Ravel Rangelo? Michael Reed!?!
(RotoLando from Cloud City)
Oh man...Canha...I drafted him along with a buddy in a scoresheet league with 80-man rosters last year...He's ok in a deeper league like I'm guessing this is. (George Bissell)
2015-06-02 18:00:00 (link to chat)A's fan here trying to find something positive in this season beyond Sonny Gray. So what do you make of the seasons so far (SSS caveat) of Stephen Vogt, Billy Burns, and Mark Canha (against right-handers)?
(Eric from Fremont)
There was another Canha question that was just submitted so I'll answer it in this one. Yeah I think there's always room for players who can hit right handed pitching even if LHPs get them out. I don't understand why Vogt is doing what he's doing and I really want Billy Burns to work but I don't think it's a long term thing. At least Marcus Semien is mashing. (Mauricio Rubio)
2014-12-11 18:00:00 (link to chat)Given the Marlins giant suck hole at 1B, why did they not protect Mark Canha? What did the A's get in him? He seems to have above average hit and power tool likely a cheaper/better option than the Marlins incumbents who all still project for negative WAR.
(brentdaily from colorado)
Canha's a platoon bat at best and I don't see him playing to average hit or power grades at the big league level. He's got a chance to fill a niche against left-handed pitching, but that's about it for me. (Mark Anderson)
