2016-01-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Having a hard time buying the Indians OF next year. They have always been higher on Tyler Nanquin than the rest of the world. Where would you place him amount Abraham Almonte, Rajai Davis, Lonnie Chisenhall, Collin Cowgill, Joey Butler, and Shane Robinson next season?
(Truganini from CO)
Well, that's not exactly man inspiring group, is it? I'd probably plays him right below Chisenhall, though I should probably start treating Chisenhall with so much adoration. Davis is...well he's Rajaj Davis. The rest of those guys aren't very good. (Christopher Crawford)
2015-06-15 19:00:00 (link to chat)How were the following guys as prospects: Joey Butler, Joe Panik, Steven Souza
(Q from Brooklyn)
Panik was seen as a second division second basemen or utility player as late as this past winter, in some circles. Souza's a late bloomer who ran the gamut from toolsy prospect to malcontent to bust to legitimate bat first prospect. Butler was generally viewed as an org guy coming up, although I think some had him as a role 40. (Brendan Gawlowski)
2015-05-26 19:00:00 (link to chat)Three questions about Joey Butler: how long can he keep up his .400 BABiP (It's been more or less that for his four seasons in AAA.) Why don't the Rays play him more often? We would assume he'll be returned to AAA when Jennings comes back, right?
(John Carter from Great Lakes region)
It is extremely unlikely anyone can keep a BABIP that high in the majors; barely any one ever does it for one year, let alone for multiple years. It's easier to get higher quality contact in the minors against weaker pitchers, poorer arsenals, and particularly the back end of bullpens that are organizational depth. Nearly everyone you're facing in the majors has a high end out pitch.

He probably should be getting a few more at bats than Brandon Guyer, but when you factor the high whiff rate in, the Rays are probably figuring that he is a BABIP fluke.

Yes, he seems like the guy who would go down when Desmond Jennings comes off of the DL. (Mike Gianella)
2013-09-11 13:00:00 (link to chat)Most annoying non-prospect everyone keeps asking you questions about is?
(BobcatBaseball from Athens, OH)
Ha! I don't get many questions about straight NP's but I do get a lot of questions about fringe guys. Having covered the Rangers system the last few years (and I preface this by saying he's a great guy with a great story and works his ass off), I got way too many questions about Joey Butler. He's the type who doesn't project to have much of an MLB future but puts up big numbers in Triple-A. Those guys often lead to the questions. (Jason Cole)
