(Jon KK from Elkhart, IN) | I'm not sure when Darnell is due to return. As for where he fits in, he is a passable third baseman who can't play anywhere else on the infield. His best-case scenario is Michael Cuddyer's career, but there's a good chance he ends up being a right-handed bat off the bench (sort of like Jesus Guzman), or less. (Geoff Young) |

He could get a September callup and possibly be a part of the 2013 Padres depending on what they decide to do with Chase Headley and James Darnell (nice problem to have). Spangenberg is farther away, but on-base skills and speed should make him useful at the top of the order. (Geoff Young) |

He is already 25 years old, which suggests he'll end up as a role player a la Jesus Guzman. Whether that happens in San Diego or somewhere else, I cannot say. (Geoff Young) |

(Arby's from Good mood food) | Why wasn't Heath Bell traded? ...I have to admit I haven't seen too many Friars games this year, being generally more focused on the AL East, but it's really hard for me to come to a judgment in that other than Chase Headley, Cameron Maybin, Kyle Blanks, Corey Luebke, and Mat Latos, and (likely) Anthony Rizzo, I see a lot of guys who are basically just interim types. His minor league track record is excellent, especially when you discount 2010 for injury. When does he get a shot in SD? I have heard differing opinions on his ceiling; your thoughts? (MJ from Madison, Wis.) | I've only seen him once, but thought he had the most consistent at bats in the Futures Game. He's taken to LF well from what I understand in a very short time. He's athletic, he has some pop. Maybe a solid regular at the corner w/ a touch less than ideal power. (Mike Ferrin) |
