2010-02-23 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Hey Steven, thanks to you & staff for the great book, and thanks for the chat... Would you rather have 1)Nick Johnson & Desmond Jennings (or Ackley) OR 2)Chris Davis, Julio Borbon & Tim Alderson? (APBA player from wondering land) | I like the first choice, definitely, especially if you're going long enough to give Jennings a chance to get into the lineup. I'm hopeful for Davis, a little worried that Borbon will not hit .300 again, and Alderson just skeptical of. (Steven Goldman) |
2010-01-26 14:00:00 (link to chat) | Who has more of an impact in 2010, Jhoulys Chacin or Tim Alderson? (Ace from Aceland) | Woo, tough question. I think both need more seasoning, but Alderson has kept his walks under control a little better. I'll go with him despite the shorter track record. (Tommy Bennett) |
2009-07-30 14:00:00 (link to chat) | Please make me feel worse.
Could you speculate about what a Tim Alderson centered package should have netted, were a competent GM trading him away?
Also, is this Brian Sabean trying to save his job? (Gregjitsu from SoCal) | Sabean has been put in a spot where he has to try to save his job since he doesn't have a contract beyond this year, so, yes, he has take some chances in an effort to make the playoffs. (John Perrotto) |
2009-07-31 14:00:00 (link to chat) | Was that seriously the best Sabes could get for Tim Alderson? Really? (EricSamuelsen from Provo, UT) | I was surprised as well. Keith Law, in his ESPN.com chat, noted that recent reports on Alderson haven't been very good. Nevertheless, it's not a deal I would have made--Sanchez doesn't make enough of an impact on the Giants chances. (Joe Sheehan) |
2008-11-12 14:00:00 (link to chat) | How much, if any, has Tim Alderson's stock imroved in the eys of scouts since last spring? That was a pretty impressive performance in the Cal League, especially for his age. Thanks. (Garth from Bay Area) | It was an impressive showing, but I'm not sure it raised his stock a ton. He's not overpower, but he does have 70-80 command and control. An absolute big league arm, but some kind of impact guy? I don't see it. (Kevin Goldstein) |
2008-11-12 14:00:00 (link to chat) | Turn off the video games, and tell me why I should believe my buddy when he says Fernando Martinez is a better prospect than Tim Alderson. (Phil Bell from Alderney) | Martinez provides more ceiling, Alderson provides more certainty. From what I can tell, most rankers balance those very differently. (Kevin Goldstein) |
2008-09-24 14:00:00 (link to chat) | Wow, from this chat alone, it appears a Venn Diagram showing my interests and your interests would indicate the sole intersection of the sets is our love of Buster Posey. Speaking of Giants, though, it seems like Tim Alderson had a good year, but his buzz was eclipsed by Bumgarner. Are you still high on Alderson? What are your projections and timeframe for him? (Kevin from San Jose, CA) | Still very high on Alderson as the kind of guy who could easily and quickly become a number three starter. That's about where the projection ends and Bumgarner looks like he could be a real stud. (Kevin Goldstein) |
2008-05-28 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Hi Kevin,
Where would Tim Melville rank among high school hurlers in the 2007 draft. Is he a Jarrod Parker or more of a Tim Alderson? Also, do you think he might be falling victim to scouts seeing him too much and thus starting to nitpick? (Bret from Moscow, ID) | I really am a spear-carrier, aren't I? I have no identity at all. I live in the Big Goldstein's shadow like some kind of insignificant fungus. It's an honor just to dwell in his wake, I admit, but why doesn't anyone love ME? Doesn't the 80s book count for anything? No? (Steven Goldman) |
2008-05-21 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Im curious as to the reports on Jordan Walden and Tim Alderson? Aldeson was thrown into a brutal pitching environment in the CAL and looks to be holding his own. (Ryan from Phoenix) | There's quite a contract there. Walden is way more stuff over pitchability, which has led to his inconsistency, while Alderson is way more pitchability over stuff, which is why he's holding his own at High-A, but not dominating. I'd prefer Walden, because I prefer to bet on the tools. (Kevin Goldstein) |
2008-03-26 12:00:00 (link to chat) | Chris Withrow or Tim Alderson? (Jack from Lexington) | Alderson for now, but I trust Logan White's decision when he chooses Withrow. (Bryan Smith) |
