2017-02-14 12:00:00 (link to chat)I'm interested in the timetable for Delvin Perez. Some say he gets left behind in instructs and starts playing in short season, others say he starts at low A and might even make high A later this year. What's your best guess/info?
(Buff from Colorado )
This is the kind of thing that really works itself out on the minor league side in Spring Training. There's not a ton of track record here either since the last high school bat the Cardinals took for comparison purposes here is Pete Kozma (who did go to the MWL). If you view Perez as a top ten talent in last year's draft class, those guys usually go straight to full-season. Perez was a young prep though, so a lot of variables. I still suspect the only one that matters is how he looks in March. (The Top 101 Prospect Chat with Jeffrey Paternostro)
2016-03-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)What's the impact of Peralta's injury on Kolten Wong's value? There was talk this spring that Wong was headed to a platoon with Jedd Gyorko, but maybe Gyotko will be needed more at SS now with Peralta out. Thoughts?
(Truganini from Co)
I don't know why you'd take at-bats away from Wong--who's better both offensively and defensively--and give them to Gyorko. Maybe Gyorko spells Wong specifically against lefties or something.
And I'm in no hurry to see Gyorko play shortstop either. I think Ruben Tejada was a very savvy pickup and can at least be better than replacement-level, which might not literally be Pete Kozma anymore, but still feels like Pete Kozma. (Michael Baumann)
2013-10-28 18:00:00 (link to chat)Who is most likely to be the Cardinals' shortstop in 2014?
(whjohnson37 from Houston)
None of the above.

Seriously though the internal options aren't appealing. Pete Kozma and Daniel Descalso both seem like fill-ins or utility options as opposed to starters, and while some have suggested that Kolten Wong can't be any worse at the position, I think he'd be too big of a stretch at the position defensively to give him a try. My guess based on internal options is Kozma. It wouldn't surprise me to see the club explore a trade or someone like Yunel Escobar is the market is right. (Mike Gianella)
2013-08-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)Any idea what Ryan Jackson did to get himself so deeply planted in Mike Matheny's doghouse? I mean, he's not going to be a star, but at this point, he'd be an upgrade on Pete Kozma, wouldn't he? Not that that's a very high bar...
(Bill from New Mexico)
I agree and I've wondered the same! Jackson was stuck out in LF when I saw Memphis back in June, and that confused me as well. (Jason Cole)
2013-08-01 13:00:00 (link to chat)Cardinals are about to sign Kelly Shoppach FYI. The cardinals were supposedly looking for SS but had no luck. Pete Kozma, Ryan Jackson, nor Greg Garcia are the answers so who is?
(Bubba from STL)
I thought Alexei Ramirez made sense for them before the rumors of their interest popped up. It's really hard to find a MLB-quality shortstop out there (which is something that we perhaps don't take into account enough when talking about the Iglesias and Gregorius deals). Maybe they reunite with Brendan Ryan, or Arizona decides to move Cliff Pennington for some reason? I don't know. St. Louis may not have a choice but to roll with what they've got. (R.J. Anderson Trade Deadline Wrap Chat)
2013-04-03 14:00:00 (link to chat)What are your thoughts on Pete Kozma and Jose Iglesias? They have both looked good so far this spring/year. Think they will be ok offensively?
(Todd from Dallas)
I made up my mind on Kozma last year and I don't have enough time in the day to reassess him continually, so I'll say "Meh" and "no." There are too many baseball players.

Iglesias won't be ok offensively, either, but don't care, won't ever care. (Sam Miller)
2012-12-13 13:00:00 (link to chat)Professor, who is the Cardinals shortstop next year? Andrus? Not much on the free agent market. Please don't say Pete Kozma.
(Justin from Chicago)
Peter Kozma (Jason Parks)
2012-12-05 13:00:00 (link to chat)Ian, with Scutaro re-signing with the Giants, do you think the Cardinals will do anything at the meetings regarding the middle of their infield? Thanks!
(Chopper from Indy)
Are you not a Pete Kozma believer?? :)

I'm still a big Furcal fan, so if he's healthy (big if) I have no problem with him as my opening day SS. Between Descalso and Kozma, you have a LOT of potential at 2B/SS -- lots more than what other orgs have. Whether or not they actualize that, well, none of us can say just yet. But I'd say the Cards are set up pretty well right now! (Ian Miller)
2012-10-23 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who has the better career: Pete Kozma or Joe Panik?
(Beau from SF)
Kozma. (Jason Parks)
2012-10-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)What's gotten into Pete Kozma?
(Jeff from Springfield)
Kozma is having one of my favorite random hot streaks of the year. How often does a guy hit .232/.292/.355 over 500 Triple-A plate appearances and .333/.383/.569 over 82 big-league plate appearances in the same season? And it's carried over to the postseason. What a weird year. (R.J. Anderson)
