2018-12-11 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Do you think Segura will have better stats with
Phillies compared to Seattle? (zeeksam from Halifax, NS) | Raw numbers? Probably. I liked that deal for the Phillies, as I think even Juan Nicasio will be valuable for them. (Aaron Gleeman) |
2017-10-24 20:00:00 (link to chat) | Hey Rob ... (and also maybe Matt)! Tell me a little about the 2017 Pittsburgh Pirates, and what makes for a compelling story about such a, well, lackluster season. (Not Bryan from Not In This Chat) | Well, they had things go wrong in a kind of interesting way. Cutch was awful, then fantastic, then awful. Marte did a Dee Gordon suspension season impersonation. The Juan Nicasio transaction--put him on revocable waivers, pulled waivers so he wouldn't go to an NL Central foe, where he wound up anyway--was arguably the inscrutable/idiotic transaction of the year. (Bryan, who is BP's transactions expert, had to take off; he probably could list half a dozen more inscrutable/idiotic transactions.) So they were mediocre, though in an arguably interesting way - Rob M (World Series Chat) |
2017-08-31 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Who's winning the waiver claim on Juan Nicasio? (Colin Anderle from San Diego) | No serious contender can afford to let him pass. He's been about as good as Archie Bradley and David Phelps this year. His whole career, he couldn't get lefties out, but this year, he's even doing that. So who's first in line among the legit contenders? The Rockies? The Brewers?
I want to note, though: it's so weird that the Pirates did this that you have to wonder if the guy is somehow radioactive. Smart teams do their homework even in the heat of a race, so if he's an asshole, he might end up on the Astros or the Mariners. (Matthew Trueblood) |
2013-01-16 13:30:00 (link to chat) | I see a lot of varied opinions on Juan Nicasio. A lot of people are high on him, others are not as high. What are your thoughts? (Flynn from Rehabbing) | The raw stuff certainly intrigues me, Flynn. Ultimately, I don't think he's fine enough in the strike zone for sustained success, but improvements in that area can come with big league game experience. Once he's on the mound for an extended stretch of time, we will have a better idea of what steps he is capable of taking at this stage. (Mark Anderson) |
2012-04-13 13:00:00 (link to chat) | How much will the Rockies limit their pitchers this year? How will pitch in September? They have the young, Juan Nicasio, Drew Pomeranz, and Chacin. They have the old in Jamie Moyer. (will.I.ain't from roaming) | I'd bet that Pomeranz, who threw about 120 innings across four levels last year, will be capped around 150-160, and Nicasio maybe just a bit higher. I'd be surprised if Moyer makes it through the year, at least in the rotation, and I think it's important to remember that they have Jorge de la Rosa coming back from Tommy John surgery at some point this summer.
I don't think it's going to matter particularly how well they pitch in September, as they won't be contending. Their offense is mediocre even in a division that defines offensive mediocrity, and Jim Tracy is more hindrance than help when it comes to running a bullpen. (Jay Jaffe) |
2012-03-26 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Great chat, I am really enjoying all the chats on the website lately. I am drafting Thursday for a NL only league. My sleeper pitcher pick is Juan Nicasio. Good, bad, or other? (Jerome from T Hills) | Multiple Juan Nicasio questions. Good sleeper because your other fantasy league managers are going to get all excited and try to trade for him if he happens to start 6-0. Bad sleeper because everything needs to break right for sleepers to pay off, and you just add a lousy ballpark in as another variable against you. He's not great, though, if that's what you're asking, and you'll find just as good on the waiver wire. (Sam Miller) |
No BP Roundtables have mentioned this guy.
