2015-06-02 18:00:00 (link to chat)With contact rates worse than Junior Lake and Matt Cain, how can we expect Joey Gallo to succeed here? Is it just one of those things where stats don't tell the whole story or what?
(Albert from NYC)
We can project him to succeed because of the extreme, 80 power and the adjustments he's made throughout his career when it comes to his pitch recognition. This is not a player that will ever compete for a batting title and he's going to strike out a fair amount but he has the secondary skills to succeed at the major league level. (Mauricio Rubio)
2014-07-22 15:00:00 (link to chat)Better hit tools and plate approach: Junior Lake or Steven Moya?
(Nick from Illinois)
This is actually a pretty apt comparison. I'll take Lake, though. (Jordan Gorosh)
2014-05-15 20:00:00 (link to chat)Dynasty league you like CJ Cron, Justin Smoak or Junior Lake more? And what about just this season?
(Rick from Hoffa)
Ugh, if I have to pick one it's probably Cron, but I"m not happy about it. (Bret Sayre)
2014-03-27 13:00:00 (link to chat)Has Junior Lake completed his transformation back into a pumpkin, or is there more squash-like behavior in his future?
(Ratcatcher from RDU)
I thought Parks had a good take on him a few days ago. He's obviously a big talent, but the nuance aspects aren't there. My guess is he'll disappoint Cubs fans this year. (R.J. Anderson)
2014-03-14 09:00:00 (link to chat)Alfonso Soriano recently dropped a 40/40 potential on Junior Lake. Crazy yes, but what do you see his peak as?
(dastard from on)
Yes, that is crazy. 15/15 seems more reasonable, and I worry that Lake is going to get pushed aside by the tidal wave of Cubs prospects who will be on the scene sooner rather than later. (Mike Gianella)
2014-02-18 14:00:00 (link to chat)Junior Lake was listed #10 on BP's Cubs under 25 ahead of Vogelbach, Candelario, etc. This surprised me. Do you believe in him in any way shape or form?
(Dave M from Tampa)
Not a long-term believer. I don't believe in the hit tool or the approach. (Ronit Shah)
2013-08-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)I seem to remember people being high on Junior Lake a couple years ago and now I am hearing to reserve excitement about him... What should we expect of him in the coming years in Chicago?
(eddiegaedel from LA)
He'll flash all the tools at you, and that makes him an exciting prospect. But he's had trouble putting them together with consistency and bringing them into full game utility. The lacking approach has been a factor in that, even though the bat speed is a lot of fun to watch. I agree with those who say tap the brakes a bit. However, there is raw talent and potential. (Jason Cole)
2013-08-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)Long term prognosis for Junior Lake & Khris Davis ?
(Bob from Milwaukee)
Lake for me. (Paul Sporer)
2013-08-27 13:00:00 (link to chat)Harry, Your thoughts on Junior Lake's year and do you think he starts next year or reverts to the bench ?
(Kyle from Milwaukee)
I think I can handle him playing regularly in the OF. He's got some fun tools, some major flaws and a lack of refined baseball skills. 2015 is the bigger question mark, assuming Lake is what I think he is and the guys in the minors show up on time. (Harry Pavlidis)
2013-07-19 13:00:00 (link to chat)Callups today: Chris Colabello and Junior Lake. Fliers or bench fodder?
(RotoLando from Cloud City)
Really depends on league, but needs to be pretty deep for either. (Paul Sporer)
2013-07-12 19:30:00 (link to chat)How prospecty is Junior Lake? Does he get a cup of coffee this year and what is his most likely role?
(Esteban from Indiana)
Can contribute, and isn't the type of prospect you worry about starting the clock on. So, the Cubs could give him time with the big club in 2013. 4th OF for me, but there are evaluators that really like him as a potential everyday guy. (Nick Faleris on Draft Signing Day)
2013-02-26 14:00:00 (link to chat)Staying on the Cubs - is Junior Lake in any way, shape, or form an option for them at 3rd base? I've heard he's been working there, and with the Stewart injury and overall uselessness I say, why not - you say?
(Theo Backer from Chi-town)
I don't see Lake as a long-term regular, but injuries and other circumstances might conspire to give him a chance at some point this year. He didn't exactly dominate Double-A last year, though, so I'd temper short-term expectations. (Daniel Rathman)
2010-08-20 15:30:00 (link to chat)Should i be excited about Cubs' high-A SS Junior Lake? he's supposedly high on tools, but was absolutely putrid at the plate for his first year and a half of full-season ball. But around midseason something seemed to click (i've heard rumors of new stance) and he's been putting up great numbers since then as a 20-year-old shortstop in the bad-for-batting FSL. Also, if he is legit, can he stick at SS?
(chigurh from texas)
There's definitely SOMETHING there, no question. Great tools, even here in the Midwest League last year when his numbers stunk. He has problems with anything that's not a fastball, but remains intriguing. (Kevin Goldstein)
