2016-06-21 20:00:00 (link to chat) | What is wrong with Wei-Yin Chen? What are the odds of him turning it around ROS? (Phred from Philly) | I don't think anything's wrong with Chen. I think he's at the bad end of possible outcomes for himself, so his numbers the rest of the way will probably be a tiny bit better, but not much. The peripherals are all fairly close to where they were last year. His strikeout rate is slightly better this year, while his HR rate and his walk rate are slightly worse, but none of them are that far from where they were in 2015. (Scooter Hotz) |
2014-03-19 20:00:00 (link to chat) | International signings seem to have huge benefits: (Cespedes, Wei-Yin Chen, Darvish, Puig and Hyun-Jin Ryu). Who are a couple of the next big players we should look out for? (Silverback38 from VA) | There's not much coming out of Japan. Kenta Maeda is the next pitcher who will come over (likely for 2015), but he's a soft-tossing #4 profile. Cuba has some good hitters in Jose Fernandez and Yasmani Tomas, but who knows when or if they'll defect. (Bret Sayre) |
2014-02-03 13:00:00 (link to chat) | I'm in a 20 team points league with a one SP per day maximum. Basically every SP or possible SP is owned. SPs go very early in our minor league draft. Without listing who all is available do you have any sleepers for the back half of the draft who could be low floor SPs? Staying a SP is a must because even 4th and 5th starters with secure jobs have lots of value. Thanks (Brandon from Springfield MO) | Guys like Wei-Yin Chen are the go to guys here. Dan Staily is another guy to look for here, and I would take a gamble on (gulp) Edwin Jackson considering the league setup. (Mauricio Rubio) |
2014-02-10 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Computer sim league question. Would you deal Miguel Cabrera and Randall Delgado for Wei-Yin Chen and Anthony Rizzo? Getting picks for next year too but those are the players. (joott41 from Wisconsin) | Are you getting all of the picks? If not, no. (Jeff Moore) |
2013-03-19 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Resign Wei-Yin Chen for $7 in 10-team AL only? (Mike from NYC) | I'm not much of a fantasy guy, so I'll put it to you this way. If you think what Chen did last season is worth $7 then I'd pay it. I think it's a repeatable performance give or take a bit in either direction. (Matthew Kory) |
2012-10-04 14:00:00 (link to chat) | My O's are going to start joe saunders in texas? it's like why bother. just pissing away this magical season in one disastrous move. talk me off the ledge, will you? (Randy M. from Shocked) | I hear you, Randy, although if the regular season means anything, plenty of things we never thought possible have already happened.
The past is obviously ugly: As I wrote in the WYNTK this morning, Saunders is 0-6 with a 9.38 ERA in his career in Arlington, and he's given up something like 13 homers in 31 innings. But the problem is that Steve Johnson may not be fully recovered from his late-season knee injury, and the only other option is really to go with Wei-Yin Chen on short rest, which seems to have been ruled out. It's sort of a pick-your-poison situation, and regardless of who gets the ball, I'm sure they will be on a short leash. (Daniel Rathman) |
2012-10-01 13:00:00 (link to chat) | I'm within 1 of multiple people in the HR and Win categories in a league. No one can catch me in the "conflicting" categories, like AVG or Hitter's strikeouts or Losses (which we have). Could you name 1 hitter and 1 pitcher you think most likely to hit a homer or win a game? (SimplyFalco from Amherst) | Jonny Gomes is widely available, and if you have daily transactions, you'll get him against Martin Perez tonight. Wei-Yin Chen has pitched well against the Rays, is widely available, and pitches tonight, so he's a guy I'd gamble on. (Josh Shepardson) |
2012-06-29 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Just lost CC, Pettitte and Dempster to injury. This ain't pretty, but who would you pick up out of this group?
Milone, Samardzija, Wei-Yin Chen, Floyd, Ervin Santana, Masterson, Hochevar, Bailey and Quintana. (Struggling from NYC) | I like Samardzija, who's been strafed for a .331 BABIP but has good strikeout and home run rates. Chen has held his own in a tough park, and Masterson has been pretty decent besides the wins. (Jay Jaffe) |
2012-02-02 15:00:00 (link to chat) | Does Wei-Yin Chen hold any value? (Joseph from Richmond) | His numbers in Japan were very strong, but not exactly Yu Darvish territory, and Japanese starters don't have a great track record of transitioning into MLB rotations. I'd take a flier on him in an AL-only league, but purely as a lottery ticket. (Cory Schwartz) |
