DateQuestionAnswer
2010-07-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)Can Jason Donald actually play shortstop? Because he hasn't thus far. Who plays 2B for CLE in 2012, Jason Kipnis? Should the Tribe let Jhonny Peralta play SS for two weeks in a desperate attempt to show off his "versatility?" (But seriously: Donald is an atrocious SS.)
(buffum from Austin TX)
What's wrong with Asdrubal? Is he going to be gone in 2012, guaranteed? (Marc Normandin)
2010-07-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)Asdrubal Cabrera will be the SS in 2012, AFAIK. Unless Jhonny gets re-upped, then all bets are off. But at 2B, you have Cord Phelps, Jason Kipnis, Jason Donald, and Luis Valbuena. None of whom I want to see on the other side of the diamond.
(buffum from Austin TX)
Well there's always trades and free agency I guess. (Marc Normandin)
2010-06-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)Can Jason Donald hit enough to be the Indians starting 2b down the road?
(SaberTJ from Cleveland, OH)
Yeah, he can. The competition isn't exactly fierce at the moment, so I think he could pull it off before the end of this year. The worst case scenario for him is as a backup infielder, which is a good way to make a half million a year. Best case scenario is that he settles in nicely and posts good OBPs and bats down in the lineup. (Tommy Bennett)
2008-12-04 13:30:00 (link to chat)Jason Donald plus a little more for Delmon Young to replace Pat the Bat? Did you see Donald play in Arizona?
(Jay from Philly)
Tweener. The glove's a bit shy for shortstop, the bat's not great for 2B or 3B. I wouldn't trade Young for him, although it's an interesting idea. (Joe Sheehan)
2008-11-12 14:00:00 (link to chat)What should the Phillies do with Jason Donald? Could he transition to 3B as of 2010 or does he get flipped for Burrell's replacement in LF?
(greggaul from Chicago)
Well, the big problem there is that he doesn't have enough bat for 3B, nor enough talent to get a Burrell-esque talent in return. And I like the guy! (Kevin Goldstein)
2008-11-07 13:00:00 (link to chat)After (presumably) seeing Jason Donald in the AFL, any thoughts on his future in Philly, especially at 3B?
(SamHughes from Philly)
He yanked a ball out to left Monday, which shocked the heck out of me. I didn't think he had that kind of power. He probably doesn't--he hit the homer off of Kyle Ginley and his 88-mph heater. Donald's bat will only play up the middle, which means he's a trade chit for the Phillies. Given the state of shortstop around the league, it's a good chit to have. (Joe Sheehan)
2008-10-21 14:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Jason Donald at 3B in the AFL? Can he be a similar offensive hitter to Pedroia in the bigs, but at 3B? Obviously you'd like more power at 3B, but the Phillies did play Pedro Feliz and Greg Dobbs there this year, and Wes Helms last year....
(JM from DC)
Um, no. I don't think I'm going out on a limb here when I say that Jason Donald is not going to be the kind of guy who gives you 322 total bases in a season. He's a nice little prospect, but not a true SS, and not a guy who's in Pedroia's league offensively. (Kevin Goldstein)
2008-04-23 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Kevin, a few questions about Phillies prospects. Jason Donald was hitting well in Reading before hurting his hand, are scouts starting to come around on him or is he still a utility guy? Also, what do you make of Greg Golson's fast start? Just a 3 week flash in the pan, or is he turning it around? He's posting the highest walk rate of his career right now...
(JM from DC)
I actually like Donald quite a bit offensively, but defensively, he's got a little Jed Lowrie in him where he's playing there, and he's holding his own, but it's not really what you want there glove wise. Golson is a total tool shed, and what he's doing right now is one of the top things to keep your eye in early in the season. (Kevin Goldstein)
