2011-02-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hello Ben Who gets more saves this year, Brad Lidge or Evan Meek? Thanks
(Ed from Cranford, NJ)
Lidge. Joel Hanrahan still seems to have the upper hand in Pittsburgh. (Ben Lindbergh)
2011-01-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)Evan Meek and Jon Rauch, potential for saves with both?
(Brendan from Chicago)
I don't see Dotel getting all the opportunities up there given he is susceptible to left-handers, so it comes down to Frasor and Rauch for me. Both clubs have some handcuff situations going on there, which make them super annoying to analyze in January. (Marc Normandin)
2010-06-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hi Marc I have been offered Francisco Cordero for either Chase Headley, Chris Young or Kelly Johnson. My closer was Trevor Hoffman and I also have Evan Meek. What do you think of the offer? Thanks
(Ed from Cranford, NJ)
I wouldn't give up Chris Young, but either Headley or Kelly Johnson would be fine. Johnson's slowed down a bit since April, but he has that park to help him, whereas Headley is more of a batting average guy with low power in a park that hurts both of those things. Headley may be your low-cost option here. (Marc Normandin)
2010-05-24 14:00:00 (link to chat)Christina - if given the opportunity, do you believe that Carlos Villanueva is capable of succeeding in the closer role long term? How about Evan Meek in Pittsburgh?
(huckyoda from New York)
Long-term? No, I don't really think so, but that's not an indictment of him as much as I just don't see him fooling enough people enough of the time to really last in the role. But as a single-season fix or as a transient (a la Kevin Gregg), he could pan out just fine. Meek has to contend with the expectation that a wild guy built a bit like a fire hydrant isn't really what most people expect, but I could see him being a poor man's Rod Beck for a season or two, given the opportunity. (Christina Kahrl)
2010-01-13 13:00:00 (link to chat)The Bucs are supposedly close to signing Dotel, Carrasco, and some mystery third reliever. Any idea who that is? And doesn't their bullpen suddenly look better?
(Bucsin07 from Pittsburgh)
Well, it would be hard for their bullpen to look worse. There's not a whole lot there right now beyond Joel Hanrahan and Evan Meek. (John Perrotto)
