2008-03-03 13:00:00 (link to chat)Are we at the point where we should be asking not "what's wrong with Craig Hansen?" but "what the hell did anyone ever see in him?"
(Joe from Tewksbury, MA)
Not at all. It's pretty clear what people SAW in him. In college, he had plenty of velocity and that slider was a borderline 80 (highest grade possible) on the scouting scale. It's just not there anymore, for whatever reason. (Kevin Goldstein)
2008-01-28 13:00:00 (link to chat)What happened to Craig Hansen in Boston, will he have a legit role in the bullpn this season?
(lol from orlando)
This is a great question: really, what happened to Craig Hansen. People on the Cape still talk about his time there, and his dominance. It really speaks to how well Luke Burnett pitched there last summer that people were referencing Hansen. But really, a guy with a 92-mph slider not being able to succeed? It seems insane. But, it speaks to the importance of fastball command in a pitcher's arsenal. It's like contact ability for hitters -- it really is the first tool that all other tools are built off. (Bryan Smith)
