DateQuestionAnswer
2013-02-26 14:00:00 (link to chat)Any chance Brett Jackson opens the season with the Cubs & who would be pushed out of the lineup if he does?
(grandslam28 from Chicago)
It's possible, grandslam28, but the key for Jackson is finding a way to reduce his strikeout rate, which surged to 41.5 percent when he was promoted to the majors last year. There have been some reports from Arizona about Jackson retooling his swing, and the Cubs may feel that he's better off honing that in Triple-A than in the majors. If Epstein and Sveum decide to challenge him in the bigs, he'll either compete for time with Nate Schierholtz or put the wheels in motion on a trade involving Alfonso Soriano. (Daniel Rathman)
2012-03-08 15:00:00 (link to chat)What has to happen for me to see some significant time in San Francisco this year? What about my good pal Domonic in Philly?
(Brandon Belt from Fresno)
There are few things I'd love to see more as a Giants fan, but the way the offseason went, the deck seems to be stacked against Belt again. He certainly needs a strong spring, and ideally a poor one from Aubrey Huff or Nate Schierholtz, but an injury might be the only route to an everyday job unless Bochy's preference for veterans changes. I'm anxious to see what adjustments Belt has made to his two-strike approach, as well.

For Brown, I think a trade is his only sure route to significant playing time this year. (Daniel Rathman)
2009-09-24 14:00:00 (link to chat)Do the Giants make bad decisions because they're ignorant, or because they aren't really trying to win? I burst a blood vessel every time they needlessly leave Tim Lincecum out there for a meaningless extra inning.
(mgibson from DC)
As an organization, they seem to value speed, contact and power, and they don't pay much attention to on-base skills independent of batting average. This is how you choose Nate Schierholtz instead of Fred Lewis. Let's not forget that they have drafted and developed some very good pitching; it's in constructing an offense that they've failed, and I think the presence of Barry Bonds clouded that it's been the case for a while. (Joe Sheehan)
2008-04-01 14:00:00 (link to chat)Is it just me or is Nate Schierholtz's swing really funky and awkward looking? I can't see him ever hitting for power despite being a "strong kid".
(Chris from Harrisonburg, VA)
He's fixed some of it, but there's still a lot of bat wrap there, and the swing is definitely long. I don't think if effects his power, but I think he's beatable. (Kevin Goldstein)
2008-01-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)Nate Schierholtz put up great numbers last year in the PCL, but doesn't really seem to register as a legitimate prospect. Do you see any reason for optimism?
(ericmilburn from San Francisco)
Not a huge fan -- I just see him as more of a hacker with some pop in his bat than any sort of bigger contributor. (Kevin Goldstein)
