DateQuestionAnswer
2010-12-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who is your #1 target as the Phillies' LOOGY, free agent or otherwise?
(Bill Baer from Philly)
Dennys Reyes. Oh wait, nevermind. Scott Eyre still retired? How about the JC Romero from 2007? I think Joe Beimel would be a good fit. I'd also take a flier on Ron Mahay. Realistically, I'd be more comfortable forgoing the idea of a LOOGY and just building a solid overall bullpen. And as iffy as Romero looked last year, he still finished 2nd to Boone Logan in my 2010 LOOGY Awards, which measured the numbers lefty batters produced against a lefty specialist, relative to how those same batters performed against all other lefty pitchers. Maybe bring him back at a bargain price. (Eric Seidman)
2009-11-02 15:00:00 (link to chat)Joe, do you think Manuel should have left Madson in for the ninth last night? Even if Lidge doesn't give up a run in the top of the ninth, the pitchers' spot is due up first in the bottom of the inning, so at most Lidge was going to pitch one inning. After that, the Phillies would had to have relied on Chad Durbin, Scott Eyre and company.
(philsfan from NYC)
Absolutely. He had no reason to take Madson out, and going to Lidge--whose "comeback" is fictional--actively damaged the Phillies' chances.

It would have been comical to see Phil Coke and Chad Durbin pitching in a tied World Series game. (Joe Sheehan)
2008-07-29 16:00:00 (link to chat)Hi, Will. We met at your birthday pizza feed in NYC. I owe you an email pursuant to lots of things we talked about there, but first, a Cubs trade question: Do you hear anything about the Cubs wanting to do any roster tweaking at the deadline?
(Dave from Delaware)
I think I remember you. Lots of fuzzy memories. Cubs are hoping to deal from strength -- Scott Eyre is one of those "Plan B" names out there for some pens -- and Felix Pie is drawing some interest. Nothing big, but a tweak? Wouldn't surprise me. (Will Carroll)
