2010 Mike Gosling’s walk rates and mediocre results against lefties make any kind of LOOGY work impossible, dooming him to the same future as the great auk, the moa, and the newspaper.
2007 Mike Gosling is a lefty, and that`s usually enough to encourage people to take a gander.
2005 Lefty, but not, contrary to what some might believe, a lefty version of Mike Mussina. Gosling's highly regarded by scouts, and there's no shortage of praise out there for him, but does his performance justify it? He gives up a ton of hits, his K rate's absolutely generic, and there's nothing about his performance to date that indicates that he's going to be a particularly successful pitcher in the majors, much less a star. He'll get a look in spring training, with Johnson likely leaving town.
2004 Gosling came into 2003 needing to show that he could repeat a full season in the minors. He did that-sort of-but was unfortunately mauled by the PCL before finally being diagnosed with a labrum tear that was fixed after the season. As a result, he's only exacerbated concerns that he might be a lot more hype than hope. The organization talks him up, which you'd expect when it comes to somebody who has terms like "Stanford," "Boras," "lefty," and "90+ heat" knocking around on his resume. But after a merely decent debut in 2002, and a 2003 where he struggled to get right-handed hit- ters out before going under the knife, he'll enter 2004 rehabbing, and may not be ready to mount a challenge for a big league job until after the AllStar break. Even then, he's going to have pitch better to earn that consideration.
