2011-09-06 14:00:00 (link to chat)With D'Arnaud's ascension this year, do you see him being a better player than Arencibia, and on what kind of timeline? How should the Jays manage these two assets?
(dtwhite from Toronto)
My response here is similar to mine on Trumbo, which is that as long as we can't squeeze a .300 OBP out of the guy, he's more a problem than a solution. I look at Arencibia and see Miguel Olivo or Rod Barajas. (Steven Goldman)
2011-04-07 13:00:00 (link to chat)Your impression of Donnie Baseball's managerial skills thus far?
(Peter Q from Austin)
He's been dealt a very lopsided team, and he's going to have a hard time figuring out how to make that offense work. At the very least he needs to split up Juan Uribe and Rod Barajas, because batting the two back-to-back is a Death Valley full of outs. Beyond that, i'm not sure I can make any generalizations or judgments. (Jay Jaffe)
2010-05-24 14:00:00 (link to chat)At the beginning of the season, who could have imagined such a lackluster group of players making up the American League leaderboard for home runs? Is the National League finally catching up in terms of talent?
(psychdoc777 from Chicago)
It's certainly a weird list, isn't it? Not that I don't enjoy seeing Paul Konerko beating off Father Time, again; I expect that career-ending hip issue Tommy Lasorda conjured up more than a decade ago as a matter of CYA is bound to catch up to Konerko someday. For myself, I think it makes for a fascinating question about what's to come. Does anybody expect Jose Bautista to reach 30? He certainly doesn't have to in order to wind up with a career year. Ty Wigginton's doing enough good stuff to keep attention from focusing on "Garrett Atkins, Needless Expense in Cleats" when it comes to journeymen employed as Orioles. But here again, does this mean he's going to double his season tally with more than two-thirds of the season to play? Anybody expect that?

It makes for an interesting proposition as far as who might end up winning an MVP award: One of the Twins' towers? Somebody who has a great second half for a late-charging contender? A pitcher? But I don't take it for a minute to mean that the NL's caught up to anybody--their list of HR leaders is almost as freaky, with Kelly Johnson and Rod Barajas up there. (Christina Kahrl)
2010-02-23 13:00:00 (link to chat)Washburn and the Mets: Is an unreasonable Boras salary demand (is there any other kind?) holding up what seems like a great fit for player and team? Washburn's not great but I find it hard to believe he'll just retire when he can just find a nice big NL ballpark and munch some innings for a nice paycheck.
(Tex Premium Lager from NJ)
Did you ever think you'd seen an offseason where the Mets were so desperate it was constantly, "OMG!!! We might get Bengie Molina!!!" "OMG!!! We got Rod Barajas!!!" Jarrod Washburn is another banana from the same bunch, filler for a team that seems pretty certain to crash on the launchpad. You're right, though, that if there's a place where Washburn best fits it's in a situation like this one. (Steven Goldman)
2009-09-07 13:00:00 (link to chat)I get it that Iannetta's hitting .220, but why has Tracy started Torrealba six of the last seven games (as of 9/5)? Argh! Sorry... Strat league frustration.
(jlebeck66 from WI)
The fascination with Torrealba is like there's a rampant case of popular delusions on the value of some guys, not just the Molinas not names Yadier, but also Rod Barajas, Jeff Mathis... it's like a badge of honor to play catchers who can't hit and won't. (Christina Kahrl)
