2017-08-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)Benintendi is having quite the rookie year and has lived up to the hype. He looks like a similar hitter this year stat wise to Mookie Betts. Who would you compare his ceiling to?
(statcat89 from Fort Worth)
Well, Joe Maddon comped him to Fred Lynn when the Cubs played Boston earlier this year. I think that's just because he's short and a Red Sox. I don't know, he's obviously a really well-rounded player, and interesting for the physical profile. I'd ratchet it down from a Lynn comp, not sure Benintendi's athleticism plays the same way. (Matthew Trueblood)
2012-08-01 13:00:00 (link to chat)Have you ever seen a more impressive rookie season than the one that Mike Trout is now having?
(JWR from USA)
The only two players who I remember having as great an impact as rookies are Fred Lynn and Mark Fidrych, and now I am going before my career. Lynn impacted the '75 Red Sox and was my favorite player at the time and added so much with the glove and his bat in his ROY season. Fidrych was incredible, bringing an energy to the ballpark with is exceptional season. Trout has been incredible, and living in Southern California I am lucky to see him play a lot. (Dan Evans)
2008-01-17 14:00:00 (link to chat)You call the Jays 3rd place also rans but having the best defence and comparable pitching to Boston and NY has to count for something doesn't it? Is there offense that bad?
(Taylor from Toronto)
The Blue Jays are one of those collections of famous guys who don't quite add up to being as good an actual baseball team; it's like the Orioles after they added Fred Lynn and Lee Lacy, or any edition of the Autry Angels. Nobody who's really good is reliable, and nobody who's reliable is really reliably good. The best hope that team has is that Marcum and McGowan continue to blossom, and that Jesse Litsch is better than a strike-throwing guy with no true out pitch. (Christina Kahrl)
2008-01-08 14:00:00 (link to chat)I'm having an arguement with one of the Bostonians I work with as to the misplaced Jim Rice love. I told him Dwight Evans was a better player over the course of his career than Rice. Am I right?
(mferrin from Washington DC)
Yes. JAWS has Evans (91.7) well ahead of Rice (69.4), and even Fred Lynn (68.3) isn't far off the pace.

OK folks, gotta take a time out to do a radio hit in San Diego (1360 AM Sports XTRA). You can listen here:

I'll be back to take one or two more questions but I'll have to run soon after. (Jay Jaffe)
