2017-10-12 20:00:00 (link to chat)Michael A. Taylor looks way too much like Edgar Renteria.
(cowhitchurch from Austin, TX)
My playoff memories of Edgar Renteria involve him getting owned in the 2005 ALDS, not smoking Kyle Hendricks. (Nick Schaefer)
2017-10-12 20:00:00 (link to chat)Offended that Collin said Edgar Renteria when we have All Accepted that he looks like Marlo Stanfield
(Craig from DC)
Gives me another opportunity to vent -- people who pronounce "Mario," particularly in the context of Super Mario, as "Mare-ee-oh" instead of "Mah-ree-oh." The guy says his own name! We have more than text to go on! (Nick Schaefer)
2011-01-12 13:00:00 (link to chat)True or False: Walt Jocketty was smart to avoid the inefficient middle of the FA market and add complimentary pieces at budget friendly prices? Was it enough?
(RMR from Chicago)
I kind of buy that. I guess there was no reality in which they were going to bid on Carl Crawford, someone who would have been a nice fit in place of the Jonny Gomes/Chris Heisey/Fred Lewish mash-up that is now slated for left field. Edgar Renteria makes me nervous, the kind of guy Dusty Baker could lead off/give far too much playing time to. Not that I thought Paul Janish was the answer, but I was very curious what Zack Cozart might do at some point this year. (Steven Goldman)
2010-12-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Edgar Renteria characterized a $1 million offer to be a terrible hitter off the bench as "total disrespect." Can you break down for us how big of an offer would be partial disrespect (say, 50% disrespect), and perhaps what Renteria should actually be worth on the open market?
(Total disrespect from San Francisco)
It was disrespectful. I mean, he hit a home run off of Cliff Lee without a friggin' bicep, and all they could do was offer him one million. The nerve of... I lost my straight face. Got pretty far though, right? Total disrespect would be $1 million. Partial disrespect would be $3 million + incentives worth $1.5 million. Respect would be $7 million with incentives. Unfortunately for Renteria, if that defines respect, he does not deserve respect this year. (Eric Seidman)
2010-11-09 14:00:00 (link to chat)Starlin Castro (2010) = Edgar Renteria (1996). You buying that comp?
(Scrapper from Chicago)
No. Hate it, actually. I don't think Castro stays at SS long-term, first of all. Plus Castro will turn into more of an offensive player with some power. Bad, bad comp. (Kevin Goldstein)
2010-12-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)What type of ceiling do you see for Starlin Castro?
(Matt from Chicago)
In a few years he'll be able to afford whatever type of ceiling he wants – tin, mahogany, mother-of-pearl, his choice. He's not going to develop Hanley-esque power, won't steal plenty of bases, and isn't a superlative shortstop. However, the kid can flat-out hit, and should maintain enough of an average to keep his OBP acceptable. In this day and age, when Cesar Izturis still has a job and Ryan Theriot is viewed as a SS upgrade by a contender, he's got a well-rounded skill-set that will soon be worth millions. Peak of Edgar Renteria, maybe? (Ken Funck)
2010-08-17 14:45:00 (link to chat)Posey, Huff, Torres, after Molina, Renteria, and Sandoval recently. When will I get credit for my offensive prowess and not just derided for my oopsies?
(Brian Sabean from San Francisco)
Are you suggesting that you deserve credit for signing Bengie Molina and Edgar Renteria? Because if so, you just answered your own question. (Eric Seidman)
2009-09-17 14:00:00 (link to chat)I know you weren't quite as high on Elvis Andrus coming into the 2009 season as some other folks were, seeing him as a future Edgar Renteria rather than a future star -- has his performance this year changed your mind any?
(Adam J. Morris from Houston, TX)
No. Renteria actually had a better year at 20, but then dropped off a bit. I think they're very similar players really. Andrus w/ more speed, Renteria with a more refine approach. (Kevin Goldstein)
2009-07-15 14:00:00 (link to chat)What's a reasonable comp for Alcides Escobar?
(MkeFan from Milwaukee)
I had a scout throw out a Edgar Renteria comp recently, which I didn't hate. (Kevin Goldstein)
2009-04-06 13:00:00 (link to chat)How will the giants do this season. thanks
(Trevor from austin TX)
They'll be within a few games of .500 either way. If Barry Zito regains even his 2006-07 form, they could be in the wild-card race into September. They also have a lot of veterans, like Edgar Renteria, Aaron Rowand and Randy Winn, who if they tick upwards would push them into a race. (Joe Sheehan)
2008-07-29 16:00:00 (link to chat)How about Edgar Renteria and Ivan Rodriguez for Dan Wheeler and another arm?
(havybeaks from Michigan)
Doesn't seem to fill a need for the Rays. (Will Carroll)
2008-07-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)Marc, Edgar Renteria's stinking up my team, giving me near replacement level production. Given his track record and what I coughed up to get him, do I pick up his option for 09 or what?
(Dave D. from Detroit)
Absolutely not. You find yourself a shortstop, but don't get sucked into a Julio Lugo trade. As much as I'd love to drop Lugo on an unsuspecting customer, it's not nice to play mean tricks on others. (Marc Normandin)
