DateQuestionAnswer
2012-05-01 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is it possible that people place too high an expectation on prospects to produce at difficult positions? Its like some people are satisfied with a first baseman that posts a .750 OPS who wasn't a highly touted prospect and act like a prospect has no value at all unless he posts a .800 OPS at catcher. Nobody cares if Wilson Betemit puts up .775 OPS at DH. On the flip side, it would be a catastrophe for Jesus Montero to do so because he has no value unless he is catching.
(Tim from Seattle)
Sure. It's human nature to grade against expectations rather than an objective standard, and it's a hard habit to break. There are mediocre movies I've enjoyed far more than good movies, because I had expected the good movies to be great ones. I like to call this the "Matt Wieters Conundrum". (Ken Funck)
2012-02-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)Endy Chavez going to get 400 abs this year?
(Abe Froman from Chicago)
I'll give him 300, but not 400. With Wilson Betemit signing in Baltimore this off-season, it seems more likely that Nolan Reimold gets a lot of the LF time, also spending some time at DH with Betemit and giving Endy some starts in LF on those days. If Chris Davis happens to crash and burn or get injured, it's possible Betemit plays first/third, Reimold DHs, and Endy plays close to full-time, though. (Derek Carty)
2011-09-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who will be your vote for the AL Manager of the Year? Also, will Mike Napoli be eligible for the ALDS after his kiss to the Angel dugout in the season's last game incites a brawl? :-)
(jhardman from Apex, NC)
Good question. A few weeks ago I'd have said Terry Francona, but his stubborn refusal to move Lackey out of the rotation and stretch Aceves out is one of the main factors in the team's slide.

I think Jim Leyland might be a good choice given that you really have to squint to figure out how Detroit has gotten to the top of the AL Central given all of their injuries and roster mismatches. That's also a credit to Dave Dombrowski, whose acquisitions of Wilson Betemit and Doug Fister have really helped. (Jay Jaffe)
2010-03-15 16:00:00 (link to chat)Any big 2011 free agents that you particularly like? Crawford, CLee, Webb, DLee? Who should I hope my team signs. These days it seems like a big contract is almost always a bad deal. Holliday, Bay,
(Ron Lewis from Atl)
Well let's see here. There's this guy named Mauer who looks pretty good as a free agent. (Oh, I know, the Twins are probably going to sign him. Other names that I would love to have on my favorite team: Victor Martinez, Adam Dunn, Jayson Werth, and maybe a guy like Wilson Betemit. The big stars in position players mostly have options or are likely to be signed before they get to free agency. The free agent crop next year, isn't a place to find game changers, but there are some good, solid players in that bunch. On the pitching side, CLee and BWebb are welcome in my clubhouse any day of the week. Preferably, every fifth day. I also still believe in Matt Capps, and he'll be available to the highest bidder. 2009-01-29 13:00:00 (link to chat)Also, how valuable of an offensive SS do you think Jed Lowrie will be over the next few years? Looks like at the very least he's patient. Do you think Wilson Betemit might be a surprising offensive contributor this year (esp. with SS eligibility)? Thanks!
(Dennis from Monterey Park, CA)
I'm not a fan. He was over his head last year, and easily overmatched. We'll see how good he is in 2009 though. (Marc Normandin)
2008-11-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)WHAT A DEAL FOR THE YANKS!!!!
(YankeesFan from (NY,NY))
A lot like this here in the chat queue. I think that is the one aspect of this that's pretty wonderful regardless of what happens with Teixeira. The Yankees gave up Jeff Marquez, who seems a good bet to never pitch in the big leagues, dealt a pitching prospect for another who looks even better who doesn't have to be put on the 40-man, and Wilson Betemit, who played his way off the team. What's not to love about that? (Steven Goldman)
2008-04-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)Pink eye? How do you get DL'ed for pink eye, Wilson Betemit?
(Seth Rogan from Cali)
A) You don't want anyone else getting it.
B) Needed the roster spot. (Will Carroll)
2008-03-05 13:00:00 (link to chat)If you were going to take one 3B upside pick late in the draft, would it be Willy Aybar, Wilson Betemit, Morgan Ensberg, Dallas McPherson, or someone else altogether?
(Fantasy Manager from Scoresheet League)
Third base is loaded this year, but it's also kind of cut and dry. I'm not particularly fond of anyone on that list, though taking a late, late flyer on Ensberg is tempting. (Marc Normandin)
2008-02-28 14:00:00 (link to chat)If you were forced to pick one former 3B prospect to return to glory this year, would you take Andy Marte, Wilson Betemit, or Dallas McPherson?
(theguag from Louisville)
Betemit, albeit in a supersub role. (Christina Kahrl)
