2015-06-30 19:00:00 (link to chat)Lost Giancarlo. Looking to replace some of his power. Traded Jason Grilli for Marcell Ozuna and am looking to add Ryan Zimmerman off of waivers. Both of them should show more power in the 2nd half right?
(Shawn from Cubicle)
I think Ozuna will. It's hard to believe he only has four home runs and even if he doesn't repeat last year more power should be on the horizon. Zimmerman is a tough read because of the plantar fasciitis. It's a tough injury to recover from in season, and I suspect Zimmerman is going to have to rest/recover at some point. (Mike Gianella)
2015-06-30 19:00:00 (link to chat)What NL setup guy will become a closer because of a trade?
(bpaulus from philly)
Giles and Will Smith. Jim Johnson if the Braves trade Jason Grilli, although I don't see much of a market there. (Mike Gianella)
2015-02-16 11:00:00 (link to chat)Who do you think will make the biggest improvement with their new team (traded or FA pickup) as compared to their most recent team? seems like you like lawrie?
(Dan from Bloomington)
I think Lawrie is probably a little underrated because he's a post-hype guy. I'm not sold on him being equal to or better than Donaldson though.

Myers is up there. He'd probably be my pick, actually. Kendrys Morales is an obvious one. Jason Grilli isn't going to be the biggest gainer, but I liked what I saw from him in Anaheim. (R.J. Anderson)
2014-03-14 09:00:00 (link to chat)Mike, who do you foresee getting more saves this year between grilli and janssen?
(chopper from indy)
Hey chopper.

At the moment, I'd go with Jason Grilli. Casey Janssen's health gets me a little nervous, and Sergio Santos -if healthy - might be the best arm in that pen. But Mark Melancon is a risk for Grilli's saves too. I'm leaning Grilli here, not strongly endorsing. (Mike Gianella)
2014-01-29 19:00:00 (link to chat)Ben- Do you feel that Jason Grilli will come close to his save numbers fom last year? Do you think he'll have more saves than Casey Janssen? Thanks!
(chopper from indy)
Grilli's career is so weird. It shouldn't make sense that he's this good now, but, well he is. I don't have a good enough reason to tell you no, so sure, he can get to 30 saves again. I'd keep Melancon around as a handcuff, though. (Ben Carsley)
2013-03-06 20:00:00 (link to chat)Thanks for the chat, Paul! Who do you think will be the Cubs' closer at the outset of 2013 and later in the season? How do you think Jason Grilli will do as closer in Pittsburgh? Thank you.
(Chopper from Indy)
I doubt someone takes Marmol off the Cubs hands, so he's still the closer. Kyuji Fujikawa is expected to have a great K rate and should be second-in-line in Chicago. Grilli is probably about the 20th ranked closer, but he has as good a chance as anyone in that group to hang onto the job. (Paul Singman)
2013-02-27 20:00:00 (link to chat)Who are some underrated closers to target later in drafts? Do you like Casey Janssen or Jason Grilli?
(zissou from naples)
Grill probably falls into the underrated category. There is a lot of noise about Mark Melancon taking Grilli's job, but Grilli's numbers were solid last year and if he's healthy he probably hangs on. Greg Holland's walk rate was high last year, but the other numbers were strong and like Grilli the noise about Holland's set-up might keep the price low. Tom Wilhelmsen is a somewhat low profile but proved himself in 2012. I like Janssen if the health is there but the health gets me nervous. At least at the moment. (Mike Gianella)
2012-11-09 14:00:00 (link to chat)Looking through the FA class of RP and SP, who are this year's Fernando Rodney, Hiroki Kuroda and Wei-Yun Chen?
(jlarsen from chicago)
Projecting relievers is a fool's errand, given the sample sizes involved and the variation in reliever usage from year to year. But I'm a fool, so allow me to take a stab at it. A few names that stand out as potential bargains are Jason Grilli, Joel Peralta, and Octavio Dotel - Dotel might be the Julio Franco of this generations relief pitchers.

2012-07-11 12:00:00 (link to chat)What about making up ratios in leagues with GS limits (mine's 200)? I'm in a 10-team league like that and killing everything except ratios. Is it reasonable to roster a bunch of solid ratios RPs to chip away in the 2nd half? If so, who'd you sugest?
(gus from NJ)
someone like Wade Davis or Jason Grilli..guys that get the work in. You need more than just 1 IP spots (Jason Collette)
2008-03-31 13:00:00 (link to chat)The locals are on pins and needles, seeing their bullpen entrusted with a one-run lead.
(Daniel from Michigan)
Too late! The Royals have tied it up on a John Buck RBI single. Out goes Jason Grilli, in comes Bobby Seay.

Get used to this folks. The Tigers' pen is a dark, scary place. (Steven Goldman)
