2021-01-29 12:00:00 (link to chat) | Nolan Jones ends up a power-hitting (insert position here) for the Cleveland Baseball Team this year...... (Vanessa from Des Moines) | Oh let's say RF for fun. I wouldn't be utterly convinced it's this year based on the 2019 Double-A performance, but dealing with ETAs for prospects coming off 2020 is basically a giants shruggie face for me in most cases. (Jeffrey Paternostro) |
2020-02-21 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Jesse, how do you value Glasnow this year? I inherited him in a dynasty league and have gotten a lot of trade offers. I'm worried about his injury risk but bullish on his potential. (esix.snead from NY) | Glasnow is a divisive player. Some LOVE him. Some HATE him. I fall in the middle. He ranks 75th overall for us. He is basically a 2-pitch arm with tons of injury, command, and relief risk. Those two pitches are incredible, and play up due to his uncommmon size (6-foot-8). Glasnow is also apparently working on adding a splitter to his arsenal to replace his little used change-up. I think he can be elite if healthy and if his command is on, I just am not sure he is a pitcher built to last beyond 5-inning stints long-term.
For trade context, in TDGX, the following trade occurred 3 weeks ago: Tyler Glasnow, Tommy Edman, and Edwin Rios for FYPD Pick 1.3, Nolan Jones, Jordan Groshans, and Francisco Alvarez. (Jesse Roche) |
2020-01-31 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Which dynasty 101 guys make the biggest moves if you consider OBP vs. Avg? (MK from Houston) | As an initial matter, I do not trust walk rates in short-season leagues or even the low minors. Player discipline can change dramatically between the minors and the majors as pitchers simply have better command/control and throw more strikes to challenge hitters. That said, I think the extreme cases do warrant attention (15%-plus walk rates and sub-5% walk rates)
Guys who move up include Andrew Vaughn, Adley Rutschman, and Nolan Jones. Guys who drop some include Luis Robert and Ryan Mountcastle. Of these players, Jones moves the most (easily into the Top 50, probably in the 30s). (Jesse Roche) |
2019-10-04 14:15:00 (link to chat) | Do you think Nolan Jones can make the jump next year and produce offensively at the MLB level for Cleveland? If not what do you need to see from him to get there? (Lougle from Long Island) | He's very boom or bust, something reflected in Ricky's recent eyewitness of him in the AFL. It's going to be a question of how much of the raw power he can get into play against advanced minors arms given the swing and approach. My main concern is still his having to move off third. Puts an awful lot of pressure on the bat. (Jeffrey Paternostro) |
2019-07-08 20:00:00 (link to chat) | How close was Nolan Jones to making the midseason list and what would you need to see in the second half from him to make that jump? (Lougle from Smithtown, LI) | So we had about 70 players in the final consideration set for the list and Jones was outside of that, but only barely so. That doesn't mean he wouldn't have been in the 50s or 60s if we ranked out that far, it just means he wasn't one of the last guys we talked about. We'll surely take a real strong look at him for the 101. Defensive improvements and getting more of his raw into games are things we'll be looking at closely. (Jarrett Seidler) |
2019-06-07 12:00:00 (link to chat) | Only have a spot for one in a dynasty. Contention window 2-3 years out. George Valera, Alek Thomas, Dylan Carlson, Jazz Chisholm, Keibert Ruiz, Daulton Varsho, Nolan Jones, Trevor Larnach, Xavier Edwards, Shane Baz, Michel Baez, Or Seth Beer. Also, I wish I had 10 more roster spots (KJ from Providence) | I'd probably go with Carlson or Larnach. Keibert is the best pure prospect here, but also might not be a huge fantasy factor. (Jeffrey Paternostro) |
2019-02-06 21:00:00 (link to chat) | Pick two 3b to have for the next 6 years out of Elhuris Montero, Nolan Jones, Colton Welker, and Sherten Apostel? Most upside? Highest floor? (Sean of the Dead from Fernway, IL) | Well, we ranked Welker and Jones on the top-101 and had Montero in the HM section. Apostel is a popular sleeper guy right now but is farther away. So that’s the general order. Highest floor is Welker for sure. Most upside is probably Montero or Apostel. - BC (Dynasty 101 Chat w/ Ben Carsley and Bret Sayre) |
2019-02-18 16:00:00 (link to chat) | Please rank these long term dynasty upside prospects...Kristian Robinson, George Valera, Luis Garcia (Was), Luis Garcia (Phi), Julio Rodriguez, Marco Luciano, Nolan Jones. Thanks a bunch! (Turd Ferguson from Jeopardy) | I'd probably go Garcia (WAS), Valera, Robinson, Luciano, Garcia (PHI), Jones, Rodriguez. The first Garcia is ahead by quite a bit. The last four are pretty closely grouped, and I wouldn't complain if you flip-flopped them. (Kevin Jebens) |
2018-01-31 14:00:00 (link to chat) | I'm in a rookie draft at the moment expanding from 140 rostered to 210. Could you name a few guys that might have gotten overlook on the published top 100 lists but could be big movers in 2018. The only notable name left in my league are Alec Hansen, Jhailyn Ortiz, Nolan Jones. (Chansen8895 from San Jose) | Those are some good names to target, for sure. Jones especially has seen his stock rise over the last calendar year. Some other names I like: Seuly Matias, Gabriel Maciel, Yonathan Diaz, Jesus Luzardo, and Dustin May. (Mark Barry) |
2017-09-29 12:00:00 (link to chat) | It seems like Wilson and I share similar tastes in fantasy baseball assets. In his 2018 dynasty targets post, he highlighted several potential breakout names.
Of these three, who will I regret not owning in 2018? Wander Javier, Jesus Luzardo, Nolan Jones. (Chris B from St. Louis, MI) | The Nolan Jones reports from the Penn were...intriguing. Javier probably has a little more upside though if that is your thing. Love the Jesus Lizard, but the stuff isn't so good that I'd take him over the bats yet. (Jeffrey Paternostro) |
2017-09-18 23:00:00 (link to chat) | In your 3B on the ocean floor piece this year you wrote that Nolan Jones could climb up dynasty rankings if he shows signs of translating potential into game skills. The numbers look good but I know the limits of that. What's your verdict? (Rob from Alaska) | Solid season for Jones, yeah. He's still eons away from sniffing a big-league roster still, and the body still has a whole bunch of maturing to do. But the lauded approach translated well in the NYPL, he made strides adjusting to third base and growing into that position, and he's maintaining his course developing into a well-rounded player with an above-average eventual ceiling. By this time next year he's got a shot to be one of the more intriguing young 3B prospects around for dynasty purposes, particularly in OBP formats, where the strike zone command is hella attractive as a lynchpin of the profile. (Wilson Karaman) |
2017-07-06 12:00:00 (link to chat) | Got a favorite out of this mish mash of low level prospects?
Monte Harrison, Khalil Lee, Yanio Perez, Brandon Marsh, A.Gimenez, Nolan Jones, Jake Gatewood (Nose Pincher from Florida) | If this is a fantasy question, I'd go after Harrison's offensive upside, and he's actually one of the closer guys there to major league horizon. For prospect list purposes I think Gimenez was probably closest to making the 50, although he wasn't all that close. (Jeffrey Paternostro) |
