2009-12-01 13:00:00 (link to chat) | What do you think of Sin Soo Choo? Can he improve upon last years performance? Is last years performance even sustainable? (SaberTJ from Cleveland, OH) | Shin-Soo Choo is pretty great. I don't think he needs to improve on last year, given he's a legit line drive hitter with some power, on-base skills, great baserunning skills and the ability to play at least average defense. Can you believe that he was acquired for Ben Broussard? (Marc Normandin) |
2009-12-01 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Marc Normandin: Shin-Soo Choo is pretty great. God Bless Seattle :) (SaberTJ from Cleveland, OH) | It's funny, because he's the kind of player the current Seattle front office would drool over.
I have to wrap things up folks, as I have to finish some baseball-related things I was working on that made me late for the chat in the first place. (Marc Normandin) |
2008-08-15 15:00:00 (link to chat) | Is there any chance the Reds are considering/will consider making Micah Owings a position player? Would that be a good, mediocre, or miserable idea? (Scott from Ann Arbor, MI) | I really doubt they're considering anything of the sort, nor should they. Owings can be a valuable part of a big-league rotation, but might only make a mediocre first baseman or corner outfielder. It's easier to find a Ben Broussard type than a third or fourth starter. (Christina Kahrl) |
2008-03-06 13:00:00 (link to chat) | In that case, Jay, would you move Broussard to first base? I know his offense would be less valuable there and Chris Davis is imminent, but Taylor Teagarden is looming on the horizon as well-and that guy's as natural a catcher as we've had since Pudge. (Or from Dallas) | IANOPG - I am not our prospects guy, Kevin Goldstein is. But from where i sit, I'd say that since the Rangers aren't about to threaten to win anything this year, their best shot is letting the kids develop. Salty looks as though he needs another year in the minors based on last season's performance; might as well make sure he gets 1B down while he's down there. Teagarden, though he rates highly as a defender, needs to show he can make it through a full season behind the plate. Davis, who just completed Double-A, certainly looks like a monster on paper, but besides his power he's got only marginal plate discipline (150/35 K/BB last year) and is a bad defender.
In other words, if I'm the GM it's time to meet your new stopgap 1B, Ben Broussard. (Jay Jaffe) |
