BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2018 Jake Peter is a slap-hitting second-base prospect who doesn’t slap quite enough to merit much excitement. Aptly, his name rhymes with “Fake Jeter.”
2017 A two-way college player at Creighton, Jake Peter became a full-time hitter as a pro and has struggled to produce enough power to be more than a role player.
2016 He's a little light on power, but Peter does everything else well enough to be a regular second baseman if his development stays on track. Left-handed hitters at the right-leaning infield positions always have a little extra value, and ones with plate discipline can be especially useful. Peter is versatile (he played 13 games at shortstop in 2015, though he's no more than a fill-in option at that spot in the bigs; he does have the arm for an outfield corner if he lands in a utility role) and his game is well rounded. There's no vaulted ceiling here, but you don't have to hunch over or duck under light fixtures, either.
