BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2017 Despite little to no prospect hype, lefty outfielder Jon Kemmer has kept plugging away, as he mashed 18 homers in a modestly successful campaign in his first crack at Triple-A. A southpaw with a bit of pop but no glove for center field, his profile screams fourth outfielder.
2016 Kemmer needs to hire a brand manager or something. The 21st-rounder logged a .988 OPS in 2015 and still managed to fly under the radar. True, he did spend the entire season at Double-A, but he also didn't appear on many (if any) organizational lists coming into the season. Not to say he should have—he had merely an okay time in 2014 in A-ball, and he's old for pretty much all levels. But he greatly expanded his on-base abilities by significantly improving his walk rate and getting hit by a lot of pitches. His bat will be what keeps him interesting, as he doesn't provide much in the way of defensive value. He'll be given his age 25 season to prove himself—i.e., duplicate his 2015 season entirely—to finally get someone's attention.
