2017-01-06 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Any reports on Champ Stuart from the AFL? Can't help but wonder what will happen if he can put it all together... (O'Ryan from CA) | It's Champ Stuart, but in a launching pad. Don't get me wrong, he is fun to watch, but the pitch recognition just never got there. (Jeffrey Paternostro) |
2016-12-02 13:00:00 (link to chat) | What would you do if you next if you were running the Mets? (Assume a Mets-reasonable payroll applies.) (Bryan G. from Michigan) | Bruce has to go in the next week or so. If there is any truth to the Pompey thing, I'd make that move as it gives the Mets a skill set they don't really have anywhere in the system (Champ Stuart doesn't count) and there's still some upside left in the profile.
I'd like to get a Bartolo type, but they don't really have a guaranteed rotation spot for him (even if Wheeler moves to the pen in the near-term as rumored), but I suspect by June they will be lamenting not having a steady 180-inning arm on the roster. So I guess I'd grab like Tommy Milone as a priority NRI. Then take flyers on Daniel Hudson and Neftali Feliz. And because it is me, and I am a self-indulgent man, sign Yusmeiro Petit. (Jeffrey Paternostro) |
2016-11-11 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Hey Jeff, I'm also Jeff. What do you make of Champ Stuart? Sure has some tools. Hit tool *seems* to be coming around in AFL? Is this a guy that might have a lot of success, a guy we might look back on in a few years and say "maybe, we could've seen this coming" (Jeff from Ny) | He's still whiffing in a third of his PA, right in line with what he did in Double-A. His pitch recognition has just never come along against better arms and he just turned 24. I think he can have a major league role (Jarrett and I have discussed that he easily could have been the Mets Terrence Gore the last two Falls), but I don't think it's an impact one. (Jeffrey Paternostro) |
2016-09-07 19:00:00 (link to chat) | What does Champ Stuart need to do to become Billy Hamilton? (Gavin from Chelsea) | Champ is an 80 runner, but he isn't Billy Hamilton fast, because Billy Hamilton is borderline off the 20-80 scale. And he's a long way from even hitting Hamilton's empty .260.
Stuart should also probably be on the Mets expanded roster right now, because he absolutely could be Terrance Gore right now, and the Mets are using guys like Ty Kelly and Gsellman to pinch-run. (Jarrett Seidler) |
