(Jimmy Nutron from Space)		While I really like the Mike Clevinger trade for the Padres (and I think it is a perfectly adequate haul for the Indians), my favorite deal was another Padres trade, which I like for the Mariners. Here is the deal:

Padres acquire C Austin Nola, RHP Austin Adams and RHP Dan Altavilla in exchange for OF Taylor Trammell, C Luis Torrens, RHP Andres Muņoz and INF Ty France

Now, Austin Nola is a very valuable piece. His bat appears legit, he is a solid defender, and he is under team control through 2026 (despite being nearly 31 years old). However, the value of that team control is questionable given his age and lack of much track record.

For Nola, the Mariners snagged Taylor Trammell (broken swing but tooled up prospect with big potential), Andres Munoz (broken arm but electric when healthy), Ty France (good hitter with uncertain defensive home), and Luis Torrens (decent enough replacement for Nola with team control). I think it is a home run for the Mariners. All three hitter may be starters next year, and Munoz may close at some point next year. Love it! (Jesse Roche)

(j from Oregon)		Both have massive risk profiles as you allude to with the "lottery ticket" reference, but I'll take Mateo. He has a chance to contribute in all phases of the game in a considerable way, and I'm not sure Torrens can pull that off. (Mark Anderson)
2014-10-13 13:00:00 (link to chat)Were you able to catch any of the Yankee instructs? Any thoughts on Jorge Mateo, Luis Torrens, and any of the recent July 2 signees?
(Jesse from Oregon)		No unfortunately. Tampa is four hours away and its one of the worst drives around. Driving through central Florida is brutal. The drive from SE Florida to Tampa actually involves a stop at a place called Yeehaw Junction and a gas station that serves pasta. I'm not kidding.

Of course, if any or all of those July 2 guys come stateside next year, either for spring training or on the GCL roster, I'm going to suck it up and make a trip. Can't miss all that talent. I may even stop off for a fill up/ravioli. (Jeff Moore)
