For a great behind-the-scenes read about baseball in the 1960's, try "Joe, You Coulda Made Us Proud". It's Joe Pepitone's well-written, albeit kind of dark, autobiography, focusing on his struggles to meet the incredibly high expectations placed on him by everyone else. It mirrors baseball's loss of innocence, like American culture as a whole in that time period. It has some funny moments too- I strongly recommend it!
